Job Description

Camp Curiosity offers students, from Pre-K through 8th grade hands-on fun, one-of-a-kind experiences, STEM fundamentals, and unforgettable memories. We believe that informal STEM education will cultivate creative, innovative, and critical thinkers for the 21st century.

The Camp Curiosity Operations Lead will be the point person for staff, parents, and campers to ensure all needs are being met. The Camp Operations Lead should be passionate about providing an engaging STEM experiences for all campers and have a proactive and problem-solving mindset. Candidates must be available from 7:00 am-5:30 pm for the entirety of the summer.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Use UltraCamp and Microsoft Excel to generate camper rosters
  • Working understanding of curriculum for each camp
  • Assists with training Counselors and Teachers
  • Responsible for camper safety, allergy reports and administering medicine to campers as needed
  • Setting up and cleaning up instructional areas
  • Ensuring supply bins are complete and ready
  • Lead morning meeting and confirm any changes to schedule or operations with staff
  • Lead camper check in/check out
  • Host morning All Camp with campers grades Pre-K through 8th and facilitate games
  • Answering radio calls from staff and assisting teachers with activity set up
  • Running supplies as needed
  • Handing out lunches and supervising campers during lunch and recess
  • Establishing high expectations for performance and engagement amongst all camp staff
  • Point of contact for parents and caregivers
  • Collect teacher and counselor feedback forms to ensure exceptional experiences
  • Float into classrooms as needed to help with activities
  • Sending out daily email about camper activities to parents
  • Reporting to appropriate STEM Learning staff about any issues that arise with camp staff or campers
  • Conducting him/herself with high levels of professionalism and appropriateness at all times
  • Create and maintain a positive and fun culture amongst Camp Curiosity Staff
  • Provides coaching and feedback to staff in a constructive and positive manner

Qualifications

Work Environment/Physical Demands:

Please note that this position requires working outdoors for prolonged periods in varied weather conditions, frequently climbing narrow stairwells and occasionally lifting heavy objects such as supply bins and demonstration props.  It may also include working with chemicals and gases including but not limited to liquid nitrogen, dry ice, nitric acid, hydrogen, and oxygen.  Training will be provided. 

Education and Work Experience Qualifications:

  • Must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Excel
  • Must be energized and excited to share the experience of science with children entering Pre-K through 8th grades.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills.

Additional Information

Expected Hours of Work:

Summer camps are week-long day camps offered downtown at GLSC. Camp Operations Lead is expected to work the entire week, Monday through Friday through the summer. This position is expected to start part-time for training as early as the beginning of May with training schedule flexible to accommodate the needs of the candidate.  Camps run from the week of June 1st through the week of August 10th and the Operations Lead is expected to be available for the duration of the camp season.

  • Candidates must be available from 7:00 am-5:30 pm each day.
