Job Description

The Sales Engineering Manager provides direction and supervision to a team of Sales Engineering employees at Grantek. This includes ultimate responsibility for growing, leading and managing a direct team. The Sales Engineering Manager is also responsible to collaborate with other departments for personal and organizational success.

Essential Duties:

  • Determine ongoing, short-term and long-term team staffing levels and requirements; maintain appropriate staff levels by participating in the recruitment process; to include determining new hire requirements, interviewing and selecting employees for hire.

  • Review, analyze, and implement staffing plans that promote the most effective use of team resources.

  • Mentor employees on all aspects of their roles and jobs; at minimum, conduct individual monthly employee review meetings against individual objectives; help direct reports overcome any organizational obstacles encountered.

  • Work with the Client Success leadership team to meet or exceed annual Client Success Department objectives, in turn contributing to Grantek achieving its short-and long-term Corporate Goals.

  • Build and maintain a team of knowledgeable, skilled employees who function in compliance with all regulatory requirements and Grantek’s objectives, and meet the needs of the Client Success Department – in turn meeting the needs of Grantek’s customers

  • Accomplish overall team performance standards by communicating job expectations to direct reports; this will include planning, monitoring, appraising job results; coaching employees; developing, coordinating, and enforcing systems, policies, procedures, and productivity standards.

  • Ensure employees are up-to-date on industry/technology best practices, new laws and regulations impacting work, and other information necessary to provide knowledgeable, accurate work output.

  • Monitor and assess individual employee engagement levels amongst the team in an effort to ensure employees retain a highly positive experience.

  • Develop, foster and promote a positive and fulfilling work environment; be accountable for employee retention within team.

  • Engages in employee recognition on a regular basis.

  • Perform regular reviews of direct reports’ work; mentor and lead direct reports in regards to best-in-class design and engineering principles, tools, methodology, and quality results expectations

    Department Success:

  • Determine manpower requirements based on business needs; allocate use of available resources and delegate resources to appropriate tasks, including scheduling of resources

  • At a high level, be aware of and oversee the design, specification, and implementation efforts of the solutions created by their applicable team. Guide and enforce good design practices in all cases.

  • Maintain quality within team by enforcing quality and engineering standards; analyzing and resolving quality and customer service problems; identifying trends; recommending systematic or other improvements; perform final quality review of material prior to client release (standards and checking) as appropriate.

  • Interview and meet with staff regularly to detect issues/changes/inaccurate reporting with regards to Quality standards.

  • Provide technical support to other Departments / Business Units as needed.

  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory and customer standards/practices amongst team when working on opportunities.

  • Meet with the Director to review KPIs, and Objectives

  • Be an exceptional leader, providing wide reaching thought leadership across Grantek

  • Contribute to Sales Engineering Department Continuous Improvement efforts and initiatives.

  • Actively keep up to date with new and relevant emerging trends as related to their discipline; determine direction and planning for future strategies; review professional publications; establish personal networks; benchmark state-of-the-art practices

  • Bring forward suggestions and ideas to improve or develop departmental or company systems and practices; but also receive suggestions and ideas from colleagues, customers, and superiors

Qualifications

  • Advanced knowledge and skills in business practices and standards
  • Engineering or Business degree in related discipline, or equivalent accreditation or demonstrated experience; 

  • Leadership and management experience: 

  • 3-5 years' experience successfully leading and managing teams of consultants, engineers and / or technologists, in North America

  • Recognizes potential shortfalls within the department and takes initiative to resolve with some coaching provided by the Director, Sales Engineering
