Job Description

As a key member of Grantek’s Engineering team, you will be developing real-time automation solutions from the manufacturing plant floor to the enterprise level, using a variety of programming, configuration, and design tools: PLC and PAC Programming, Operator Interface and HMI application design, SCADA design, Network design, Database design, Vision system design, Machine Safety system design, Servo motion control, Information Solution design, MES design, ERP connector development, High-level software solution design (involving C#, HTML5, .NET, SQL, VB, VBA, and more). All junior team members will enter our mentoring program, where they will work directly beside our Senior Engineer professionals.

Key-skills and interests: machine and process control, high-level programming, information solutions, database development, operational efficiency, mechatronics. 

Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Engineering and implementing real-time automation controls and information solutions
  • Conceptualizing during the design phase of the project life cycle
  • System programming, debugging, and testing
  • Creating documentation, including project engineering notes, project proposals, project design traceability documentation, case studies, and more
  • Commissioning new solutions at client sites; finding opportunities for improvements
  • Creating methodologies and complex problem-solving
  • Learning new technologies
  • Mentoring colleagues on your expertise and knowledge base
  • Having fun and being challenged
     

WITHIN 1 MONTH, YOU'LL

  • Complete HR documents and safety training necessary for field work.
  • Complete Grantek bootcamp to train you on automation programming tools and technologies as well as business matters like: “What to do if a customer asks for a change” and “What if three different PM’s ask you to work on something at the same time”.
  • Complete our “Sample Project” which has the same documentation, and drawings as a real project and provides a complete walkthrough of our templates, and tools.
  • Be assigned to first project/task.
  • Partake in the buddy system; which assigns a mentor that assists you during your onboarding.
     

WITHIN 3 MONTHS, YOU'LL

  • Learn Grantek's technical knowledge and apply it on real projects with regular, hands-on-keyboard guidance from experienced engineers or your manager.
  • Creating PLC ladder logic, modifying existing logic in a control system or drawing user interface screens to control a conveyor system, a pharmaceutical process system with pumps, valves and tanks, or a machine vision system which inspects packaging.
  • Be a contributor to the planning, scoping, design, and implementation within a project.
  • Written test plans to ensure a system is functioning correctly and to meet pharmaceutical regulatory requirements.
  • Have been onsite, starting up a new system, troubleshooting something, training operators, or interacting with a client project manager in a real production facility.
     

WITHIN 6 MONTHS, YOU'LL

  • Write internal documentation for your features and systems so other engineers and customers are informed.
  • Have written a functional specification and design specification to completely describe a custom new system, including it’s: architecture, safety system, modes of operation, and alarm conditions.
  • Be responsible with your time management between projects.


WITHIN 12 MONTHS, YOU'LL

  • Be able to operate completely independently, given a scope of work, budget and time, receiving oversight from a PM, and knowing on your own when to engage advice from various technical Subject Matter Experts
  • Estimate technical scope and time to help a PM in the quoting phase of a project.
  • Assist other engineers technically during their development process.
  • Participate in technical and development events such as lunch and learn sessions, industry conferences, and site-specific training to enhance your knowledge and skills.


EN 1 MOIS, VOUS

  • Aurez complété la documentation des ressources humaines et la formation de sécurité pour travailler sur le terrain.
  •  Aurez complété le camp d’entrainement Grantek sur les outils et technologies de programmation en automatisation, ainsi que des sujets d’affaires comme : « Que faire lorsque le client demande pour un changement » et « Que faire si trois gestionnaires de projets vous demande de faire quelque chose de différent en même temps ».
  • Aurez complété un « projet échantillon » qui inclue la même documentation et les dessins techniques qu’un projet réel, fournissant ainsi un aperçu de nos documents modèles et outils.
  • Aurez été assigné à votre premier projet/tâche.
  • Aurez participé à notre système de jumelage, lequel vous assigne un mentor qui vous assistera durant votre intégration.
     

EN 3 MOIS, VOUS

  • Aurez acquis des connaissances techniques Grantek et les aurez appliquées sur de vrais projets avec de l’orientation régulière d’ingénieurs expérimentés ou votre gestionnaire.
  • Aurez effectué des tâches de programmation d’automates (logique à relais / ‘ladder’), des tâches de conception d’interface opérateurs pour des lignes de conditionnement (ex : contrôle de convoyeurs), pour des procédés pharmaceutiques (ex : contrôles de pompes, valves, réservoirs), ou pour des systèmes de vision industriels inspectant les emballages.
  • Aurez participé à la planification, l’élaboration des paramètres, la conception et l’implémentation d’un projet.
  • Aurez élaboré des exemples de plans pour vérifier qu’un système fonctionne correctement et rencontre les exigences réglementaires pharmaceutiques.
  • Aurez été sur site pour démarrer un nouveau système, faire de la résolution de problème, offrir de la formation aux opérateurs ou interagir avec un gestionnaire de projet client dans une vraie usine.
     

EN 6 MOIS, VOUS

  • Aurez écrit de la documentation interne pour vos systèmes et caractéristiques afin d’informer vos collègues et les clients.
  • Aurez écrit les spécifications fonctionnelles et de conception pour entièrement décrire un nouveau système sur mesure, incluant sont architecture, le système de sécurité, les modes d’opération et les conditions d’alarme
  • Serez responsable pour la gestion de votre temps entre les projets.
     

EN 12 MOIS, VOUS

  • Serez en mesure de fonctionner en toute indépendance avec le champ d’application du projet, le budget et les heures, avec la supervision d’un gestionnaire de projet et sachant quand demander conseil à un de nos experts en matière technique.
  • Pourrez estimer l‘étendue des travaux technique et le temps requis pour assister le gestionnaire durant la phase de l’élaboration de soumission pour un projet
  • Offrirez de l’assistance technique aux autres ingénieurs durant le processus de développement.
  • Participerez aux événements techniques et de développement comme des dîner-conférences, des conférences de l’industrie, de la formation spécifique au site afin d’améliorer vos connaissances et vos habiletés.

Qualifications

 

  • Successful or upcoming completion of B.Sc. Computer Engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related Engineering Technology degree.
  • Academic or working experience with some or all the listed “Technologies Used”, in previous section.
  • Meticulous, conscientious, analytical, focused, self-starter individual, who is a quick learner.
  • Excellent communication skills – both verbal and written.
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Have full-time access to a personal vehicle
  • Willingness to travel up to 50% throughout North America
