Job Description

As a key member of Grantek’s Engineering Team, The Senior Manager, Engineering is responsible for the overall management of the Engineering Department employees reporting directly or indirectly to them. This leader will focus on leading professional and performance development, team leadership, as well as development of technical standards/ templates and guidelines, and quality control and compliance. Grantek will leverage your passion for People Management and mentorship, to develop a well-rounded team of Engineers.

You will be a People Manager with some sort of technical background. Engineering experience is a strong asset but not required; you will be required to understand our business and general Engineering concepts. You will have a passion for mentorship and collaboration. You will be expected to bring new ideas to the table of People Management and Process Improvement.

Primary Responsibilities 

  • Lead, manage, mentor and direct a team of Engineering employees on all aspects of their roles and jobs.
  • Develop and maintain a team of knowledgeable, skilled employees who function in compliance with regulatory requirements and Grantek’s objectives, while partnering with internal groups to achieve company objectives, and needs of Grantek’s customers
  • Work alongside Engineering leadership to meet or exceed annual Engineering Department objective
  • Review, analyze and implement staffing plans that promote the most effective use of team resources, while working toward maintaining a team average utilization rate.
  • Determine ongoing, short-term and long-term team staffing levels and requirements; maintain appropriate staff levels by participating in the recruitment process; to include determining new hire requirements, interviewing and selecting employees for hire.
  • Develop, foster and promote a positive and fulfilling work environment to ensure employees retain a highly positive experience
  • Perform regular reviews of direct reports’ work; mentor and lead direct reports regarding best-in-class design and engineering principles, tools, methodology, and quality results expectations.

Qualifications

 

  • Experience managing and leading large teams
  • Demonstrates extensive knowledge of relevant design or engineering topics, and knowledge of reciprocal effects of the work upon other fields
  • Energetic and tenacious team player with a passion for mentorship and collaboration
  • Outside the box thinking, with a drive for People Management and process improvement
  • Experience in planning, managing projects, having scope for independent accomplishment and coordination of difficult and responsible assignments.
  • Excellent communication skills – both verbal and written
  • Willingness to travel up to 50% throughout North America
