You will have a wide range of financial and accounting duties, including corporate accounting, regulatory and financial reporting, budget and forecasts preparation, as well development of internal control policies and procedures. You will be accountable for maintaining overall effective accounting operations within the Finance department. Job Description

Financial Accounting (50 – 60%)

  • Manage all accounting operations including invoicing, A/R, A/P, GL, cost and revenue recognition including review of key working papers, payments and journal entries.
  • Maintain a documented system of accounting practices and policies.
  • Manage and optimize month-end, quarter-end and year-end close process.
  • Optimize and manage working capital and cash flow for the business.
  • Coordinate and manage year-end review with external auditor including review of all audit working papers, etc.
  • Perform overall control of all financial transactions and accountancy matters, including auditing of systems.
  • Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting.
  • Ensure complete confidentiality and integrity of data concerning financial and employee information.

Managerial Accounting (20 – 30%)

  • Facilitate and coordinate both departmental and company budgeting process
  • Work with reporting unit leaders to maintain perpetual / rolling budget updates.
  • Provide analysis and recommendations on operational expenditures.

Legal & Tax (0 – 10%) 

  • Ensure regulatory requirements of all statutory bodies are met (Canada, US, some international).
  • File accurate and timely federal, state / provincial and local tax / legal filings.
  • Experience with preparation and filing of corporate income tax returns in Canada and the US.

Qualifications

 

  • Demonstrates skills critical for managerial success including leadership, decisiveness, flexibility, sound judgment, and highly developed personal, analytical and communication skills.
  • Demonstrates skills critical for financial management success including financial corporate accounting and reporting, payroll, budget preparation, financial planning, project management accounting.  
  • Is proficient in the following systems and applications: Simply Accounting, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), plus any application in-house systems (i.e.; Corporate Intranet).
  • Recognized professional accounting designation (CPA)
  • Advanced Excel skills and ability to perform other financial analysis.
  • At least five-years’ experience in a similar financial reporting and budgeting role
  • Experience in the internal finance department of a professional services organization
  • Experience managing a team of financial analysts / clerks
  • Initiative to find process improvements, create new responsibilities, etc.
  • Drive for continuous learning and improvement on oneself and industry advancements
