Business Platform builds products and platforms that help merchants and businesses onboard, operate, grow, and serve consumers at scale across Southeast Asia. Our team develops backend systems that power merchant profile management, seller workflows, business configuration, catalog-related capabilities, and the integrations needed to keep these experiences reliable, secure, and scalable.

You will join a team working on practical e-commerce and merchant-domain problems with clear business growth. The team partners well with product, design, data, and other engineering teams to improve how merchants manage their business on Grab. Get to Know the Role

You will report to a Senior Software Engineering Manager in the Business Platform tech family and build backend systems that support merchant and e-commerce experiences in Grab ecosystem.

This is a senior engineer role who can own delivery from technical design through rollout and production operations. You will build APIs, services, and workflows that support merchant onboarding, profile management, seller operations, and internal platform integrations. You will also help improve engineering quality through code reviews, operational improvements, and daily technical leadership within the team.

As Grab continues building as an AI-driven organization, you will be expected to use AI tools thoughtfully in engineering work and contribute to product ideas that make merchant and e-commerce experiences more efficient and intelligent. You will be base onsite at our Petaling Jaya, Selangor, Malaysia office.

The Critical Tasks You Will Perform

• You will design, build, and maintain critical backend services, APIs, and asynchronous workflows that power merchant onboarding, seller operations, and e-commerce experiences.
• You will independently own delivery from technical design to rollout, including implementation planning, testing strategy, monitoring, and rollback readiness.
• You will improve the correctness, reliability, and observability of systems that manage merchant profile data, store configuration, catalog-related workflows, and business rules.
• You will investigate production issues, identify root-causes, and implement durable fixes across service boundaries, operational processes, and data flows.
• You will partner with product managers, designers, and engineers across teams to translate business requirements into pragmatic technical solutions and measurable outcomes.
• You will raise engineering quality through code reviews, design discussions, refactoring, and improvements to testing, monitoring, and team development practices.
• You will use AI tools and latest technologies to improve engineering productivity, accelerate analysis, prototype ideas, and contribute better solutions for implementation and operational workflows.

What Essential Skills You Will Need

• You will have 5+ years of professional software engineering experience building and operating backend systems in production environments.
• You will have solid proficiency in at least one backend programming language such as Go, Java, or Kotlin, and experience delivering maintainable, well-tested production code.
• You will have hands-on experience designing APIs, data models, service integrations, and asynchronous workflows in distributed systems.
• You will have practical experience with databases, caching, messaging systems, observability tooling, and cloud-based infrastructure used in large-scale applications.
• You will have experience managing production operations, including debugging live issues, improving monitoring and alerts, and making sound trade-offs across reliability, delivery speed, and maintainability.
• You have experience engaging with AI tools and latest technologies to enhance productivity, improve workflows, and contribute new ideas. You can apply them with solid engineering judgement, especially when working with production systems, sensitive data, and code quality expectations.
• You will have domain experience in e-commerce, marketplace, merchant, seller, catalog, or business platform products.
