Get to know our Team

The Team you will be working in owns the first handshake between our passengers and their journey to book a ride. We build the core transport booking experience - working on high throughput, real-time distributed systems that use machine learning to solve hundreds of millions of requests per day.

Get to know the Role

As a Senior Fullstack Engineer, you'll work on critical backend services that are used by Grab users to book a ride while also crafting intuitive web experiences for both passengers and internal stakeholders.

You will report to the Software Engineering Manager II. This is an onsite role and our office is based in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia.

The Critical Tasks You Will Perform

• Feature Delivery & Technical Execution
  • Lead Feature Development: You will proactively take ownership of the end-to-end implementation of new, high-impact features. This includes designing the schema, building the backend services, and crafting the frontend experience.
  • Write Production-Ready Code: You will write clean, reusable, and testable code.

• Technical Leadership & Architecture
  • Drive the RFC Process: Proactively identify architectural bottlenecks and lead the Request for Comments (RFC) process to steer the team toward long-term scalability.
  • Raise the Bar: Lead code and design reviews with a quality-first mindset. You will proactively mentor junior engineers, not by fixing their code, but by teaching them how to think like architects.
  • On-Call Excellence: Act as a guardian of our microservices. During on-call rotations, you will advocate for and implement permanent fixes to "silence the noise".

• Product & Cross-functional Collaboration
  • Challenge & Contribute: Work with Product, Design, and Analytics to scrutinize requirements to ensure maximum product impact. You will proactively suggest technical trade-offs that could deliver 80% of the value with 20% of the complexity.
  • Bridge the Silos: Collaborate with Android, iOS, and ML teams to ensure our APIs are optimized.

The Must-Haves

• 5+ years of experience in software engineering, with a focus on fullstack development
• Proven track record of building and scaling distributed systems in a high-growth environment.
• Deep expertise in backend languages (preferably Go) and modern frontend frameworks (React).
• A Product Engineer mindset which makes you care as much about the user's "Latency to Book" as you do about the cleanliness of the code.
• The ability to explain complex technical trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders clearly and persuasively.
• Solid understanding of database technologies, including MySQL and NoSQL databases like AWS DynamoDB
• You proactively automate CI/CD pipelines and regression testing to ensure that high-quality code reaches production faster and safer.
• A disciplined approach to quality. You are proficient in the Testing Pyramid—from lightning-fast unit tests to comprehensive integration and end-to-end (E2E) suites.
