Join our engineering team at Grab, where your work sits at the heart of how millions of people experience payments every day. We're passionate about building and improving our Payments SDK, which powers core capabilities like adding payment methods, listing, transactions, and more. You'll help shape features to serve both consumers and partners, and you'll create an impact that will reach massive scale. Get to know the role

We're looking for a Lead Software Engineer who can drive technical direction, guide engineers, and deliver reliable and scalable systems for Grab's payments ecosystem. You'll take ownership of main problem areas, influence architecture across services, and partner with engineering, product, and design teams. You will be reporting to an Engineering Manager.

What You Will Lead and Deliver

  • Set technical direction for backend services and lead the design of systems that improve availability, scalability, latency, and overall performance.
  • Write high-quality Go code and guide others toward engineering practices through design and code reviews.
  • Guide architectural improvements across Payments, partnering with engineers across teams to build systems that scale with growing demand.
  • Work with infrastructure teams to evolve service foundations, improve observability, and ensure smooth rollout of new capabilities.
  • Mentor engineers, help them grow in technical depth, and create a healthy, collaborative engineering environment.
  • Collaborate with product and design teams to shape features, validate assumptions, and build reliable user-facing experiences.

Qualifications

  • Bring 10 years of experience in a relevant field, with payments domain experience.
  • Build backend systems, including DBMS, caches, NoSQL, and app servers.
  • You will use your proficiency in at least one programming language, such as Java or Golang, while applying knowledge of computer science fundamentals like data structures, algorithms, and operating systems.
  • You will demonstrate proactivity, creativity, and a ability to balance the needs of product, engineering, and business.
  • You will use your experience with distributed systems to build scalable and reliable solutions.
  • Add value with your experience in building consumer-facing products.
  • Contribute your knowledge of developing OLTP systems and performance.
  • Experience deploying code in AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud environments
