Job Description

Goodwill Northern New England is an influential social enterprise that creates jobs, delivers needed services for people with diverse challenges, and uses environmentally friendly products and processes — all while earning revenue to pay for and expand innovative workforce services in Maine, New Hampshire and northern Vermont. We operate retail stores, employment services, national service programs, neuro rehabilitation centers, residences for people needing 24/7 support and cleaning/property services.

This Life Navigator position will support individuals seeking assistance in maintaining sustainable employment.

This is a full-time position, 30 hours per week.

Job Summary

1)  Builds and maintains an in-depth professional relationship with the customer by assisting in developing and carrying out a personal plan to address life barriers; makes appropriate referrals to social service providers; continues supporting the customer until work is clearly sustainable and customer has built a system of natural supports. Builds and maintains partnerships with lead service providers in the community in order to make needed referrals for the customer.  Will serve individuals referred from an employer in the Rutland, Vermont area both in person as well as using technology as needed. 

  • Interviews customer to collect information and observes their support system using intake data.
  • Builds and maintains partnerships with lead service providers in the community in order to make needed referrals for the customer.
  • Counsels and aids customers requiring assistance in overcoming life barriers; assists them in finding and utilizing resources to aid in overcoming identified barriers.
  • Prepares and maintains accurate customer personal plans, progress summaries, progress notes and other documentation as needed.

2)  Represents the Agency in all interactions with other members of the Goodwill community and with the general public, supporting the agency Vision of creating sustainable communities that thrive through the fullest participation of their diverse residents.

3)  Furthers the organizational commitment to triple bottom line results: integrating social, economic and environmental goals into thinking, planning and actions.

Communication:

  • Interviews individuals to collect information and observes their support system using intake data.
  • Counsels and aids individuals requiring assistance in overcoming life barriers; assists them in finding and utilizing resources to aid in overcoming identified barriers.
  • Counsels individuals regarding plans for meeting needs, and aids them in mobilizing inner capacities and environmental resources to improve life circumstances.
  • Communicates effectively and courteously with colleagues, customers, and community partners.
  • Collaborates regularly with agency Job Connection staff including, Life Navigators, Career Advisors and Team Leaders.

Knowledge:

  • Solid working knowledge of the strengths perspective and ecomapping when developing plans and actions.
  • Possesses and maintains knowledge of lead service providers in the community.
  • Utilizes various interview techniques for serving a diverse range of customers/members.

Administration:

  • Prepares and maintains accurate customer personal plans, progress summaries, progress notes and other documentation as needed.
  • Builds and maintains partnerships with lead service providers in the community in order to make needed referrals for the customer.

Qualifications

  • LCSW, LCPC, LADC, LMSW or related certification/license; Master's level non-licensed or Bachelor level with commensurate experience will be considered. 
  • BA/BS in Social Work, Psychology, or related social services field.       
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.   
  • 5+ years of experience in a related field.
  • Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.     
  • Criminal Record that satisfies Goodwill NNE criteria.
