Job Description

The Accounting Manager is responsible for the overall management of the Accounting Department providing effective fiscal management; accurate, timely and relevant financial reporting; supervision of accounting staff; and maintaining strong relationships with Goodwill vendors and associates. 

 

Essential functions:  

 

·         Work with the CFO to set strategic goals for Accounting Department; develop, implement and monitor annual plans to improve organizational financial position and operations.

·         Oversee and manage the general accounting functions, including, but not limited to: accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and payroll.

·         Complete all month-end reports within first 6 working days of each month; forwards financials and necessary reports to CFO for review.

·         Prepare necessary workpapers and schedules for auditors to ensure annual audit is performed in an efficient manner.

·         Work with the CFO to maintain the 401k plan and help prepare necessary workpapers and schedules for auditors to ensure annual 401k audit is performed in an efficient manner

·         Monitor daily cash of stores and contract A/R to ensure minimum balances are preserved and maximum investment achieved.

·         Supervise finance department A/R collection procedures and results; keep “over 90 day” percentage below 15%.

·         Provide weekly updates on financial position to the CFO.

·         Maintain professional, positive and team oriented relationship with peers and subordinates.

·         Monitor A/P ensuring correct PO usage, bills paid timely; negotiates discounted terms with vendors

·         Ensure all tax returns are submitted in timely manner. 

·         Maintain comprehensive filing system of contracts, tax records, payroll records and all financial data.

·         Regularly analyze agency expenditures to capture cost-savings measures.

·         Complete all required monthly and annual GII reports.  Work with CFO to analyze GII data to look for opportunities for improvement.

·         Attend safety trainings and follow all safety procedures and protocols to ensure a safe and supervised work environment for all employees at all times.

·         Pursue professional career development through continuing education and training opportunities.   

·         Promote positive teamwork among co-workers.

·         Responsible for other duties as may be assigned by the CFO.   

Qualifications and required skills:

·         Demonstrate excellent math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals; ability to compute rate, ratio and percentages.

·         Must maintain a professional appearance and demeanor.

·         Attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records are essential.

·         Maintain confidentiality on all matters related to organizational finance, employee compensation and personnel.

·         Independent thinking, strong organizational and planning abilities as well as excellent analytical and problem solving skills.

·         Strong computer skills including MS Office 365, Paycor, and other accounting software specific to Goodwill.

·         Thorough knowledge of U.S. GAAP.

·         Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.

Education and experience: 

 

·         Bachelor's degree in Accounting required.

·         3+ years of progressive accounting experience

·         Supervisory experience preferred.
