Goodwill Industries of Central Illinois was founded in 1934 and is recognized as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization by the Internal Revenue Service. We serve 21 counties within Central Illinois and operate retail stores in Peoria, East Peoria, Pekin, Peru, Washington, Canton, Galesburg, Kewanee, Macomb and Morris.

We also operate attended donation centers in Peoria, Morton and Minooka, Employment Services Center in Peoria, Galesburg and Pekin and a veterans’ home in Peoria.

Goodwill Industries of Central Illinois is able to fund free programs for the people of central Illinois, through the sale of donated goods at one of our stores.

Job Description

The District Manager is responsible for developing and coaching store managers, financial performance, loss control activities, collections and production of goods throughout Central IL’s retail territory. Implements and evaluates budget, management and policy matters in accordance with the strategic plan.  Ensures merchandising and safety standards of all retail facilities meet the needs of the organization. 

Looking for a leader with excellent communication and ‘people’ skills to promote and integrate Goodwill’s Mission within the public and retail team! Must have the ability to work under pressure, handles challenging situations while leading and motivating a team. The ability to understand and analyze sales and varying metrics as well as knowledge in retail and merchandising standards.

Summarized duties:

  • Assists Director of Retail in the implementation of the strategic plan and budget for all facets of retail operations.

  • Builds store management talent through planning, developing and coaching. Identifies store managers’ key areas of improvement or concerns and takes measures to resolve.

  • Increases donation sites and improves efficiencies.

  • Maximizes sales, production and goods processing.

  • Executes proper pricing and tagging guidelines.

  • Responsibilities includes interviewing, hiring, and training managers; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding, developing and disciplining. Identifies and addresses complaints and resolves problems.

  • Develops store managers in areas of orientation, training, development, coaching and supervision of retail staff to maintain teamwork principles.

  • Assists Director of Retail implement regularly scheduled meetings and training sessions.

  • Ensures excellent customer service and timely communication is provided to all customers at all times. Provides advice and support to staff on handling of customer service, providing product and service information, and resolving product and service problems.

  • Directs and audits store managers to enforce compliance of retail employees with established company policies, procedures and standards, such as safekeeping of company funds and property, personnel and grievance practices.

  • Performs sales analysis and initiates appropriate action to retail managers to maintain sales in accordance with annual budget objectives.

  • Recommends training needs in areas of production development, such as donations, distribution, pricing, store layout and sales budgets. Defines staff development needs.

  • Audits premises of retail stores to ensure that each facility complies with Goodwill regulations in regard to safety, environmental codes and ordinances, cleanliness, store and merchandising standards.

  • Assists Director of Retail with logistics communication and needs.

  • Participates in community outreach projects, meetings, trainings, conferences, and special events as necessary.

  • Other related duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

 

  • Possess excellent customer service and people skills, verbal and written communication, and active listening and speaking skills. Ability to cultivate a high performing team.

  • Demonstrated abilities to lead and motivate direct reports to achieve sales and strategic goals.

  • Minimum of 5 years’ work experience in a managerial role in a retail department. Education or progressively responsible experience in business management highly desirable. A bachelor’s degree preferred. Proven Management/Supervisory experience required.

  • Must be proficient in Outlook, Word, Excel, Adobe and Power Point.

  • Must have a valid driver’s license, auto insurance, and reliable transportation in order to complete the necessary. Driving records must be acceptable to company’s insurance vendor.

  • Knowledge of Retail POS Systems, local retail competition, pricing strategies and merchandise technique, etc.

  • CPR/First Aid/AED Certification may be required.  The training will be offered by Goodwill.

  • Valid Driver’s License and Proof of Vehicle Insurance required.
  • Commitment to continue learning and engaged participation in mandatory trainings offered by Goodwill.
  • The ability to read and comprehend complex instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write complex correspondence. Ability to effectively share information verbally to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.The ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed and written and oral instructions.  Ability to deal with problems involving a multiple concrete variables in standardized situations.  The ability to apply a decision appropriate for the situation that is in the best interest of Goodwill Industries of Central Illinois and the customer.

The salary base for this positon will be $50,000. We offer a competitive benefits package including:
