Job Description

We are now in the market for a Chief Development Director who truly connects with our work and is highly motivated to build on our success. You will work alongside our CEO, building partnerships and driving revenue opportunities to enable Good Return’s growth.

You will be a natural leader, self-motivated and collaborative, and a confident public speaker. You are a strategic thinker and compelling communicator, and have an innate ability to build relationships. You may have led business development or grown your own enterprise, and, like us, you’re energised by the idea of innovating for the greater good.

Scope of position:  Work alongside the CEO to manage Good Return’s relationships and drive revenue opportunities to enable growth. Oversee the revenue strategy, its formulation and execution, personally focusing on development efforts with major donors, foundations, and corporate supporters - to drive engagement and funding from high value supporter segments in line with strategic goals. Deputise to the CEO as required.

RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Strategic leadership of Good Return’s business development and revenue generation

  • Own the development and revenue strategy and guide its implementation to achieve organisational goals
  • Lead and inspire the team (including volunteers who make up a significant team component at any time), and support team members to effectively manage their work and achieve targets
  • Grow and nurture support base of pro bono support agencies and volunteers
  • Manage and report against budget
  • Ensure currency of and compliance with policies & procedures, and external compliance requirement

2. Develop and grow high value relationships and funding

  • Nurture and grow foundation, trust and high net worth supporters to secure grant income and impact investment capital
  • Work with the Head of Partnerships to develop and deliver on engagement plans for corporate partners, driving staff engagement and corporate giving
  • Achieve revenue targets specified in annual business plans

3. Oversee marketing and data analytics functions to achieve awareness, engagement and fundraising goals

  • Guide the Marketing Manager to ensure strategic alignment on plans and priorities, and achievement of awareness and engagement goals
  • Guide the Database Administrator to ensure data currency, integrity and insightful reporting and analytics used to inform strategy

4. Other duties

  • Be a proactive leader, modelling Good Return’s values internally and externally and driving achievement of its mission
  • Deputise to the CEO as required
  • Represent Good Return at functions and with media and champion the cause in various forums
  • Take on other duties and functional/project oversight as required

KPIs

  1. Key supporter engagement targets achieved per approved annual business plan
  2. Revenue targets achieved per approved annual business plan
  3. Annual business plan and budget prepared on time each year
  4. Monthly report on development status and plans, and quarterly report to Board
  5. Team members rate high degree of satisfaction
  6. Corporate, Foundation and High Net Worth supporters rate high degree of satisfaction
  7. Annual review confirms compliance with internal and external requirements

Qualifications

 

SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES

  • A passion for women’s economic empowerment, social justice and a commitment to Good Return’s vision of a world without poverty
  • Proven leader who has demonstrated skills/experience nurturing high performing teams
  • A ‘can do’ attitude, seeking new and engaging ways to manage major accounts and relationships across a wide demographic
  • Demonstrated ability to identify business opportunities, cultivate prospects and drive revenue growth
  • Experience in the financial services sector and/or impact investment highly regarded
  • Ability to set strategic goals, manage budgets and analyse results
  • Ability to build authentic relationships with a variety of stakeholders both internal and external
  • Engaging and compelling communicator and public speaker 
  • Outstanding interpersonal and negotiation skills, with high emotional intelligence
