POSITION SUMMARY: The Occupational Therapist (OT) will perform a full range of therapy services to develop treatment, and oversee the rehabilitation of patients as required, and in strict compliance with standing orders and protocols set forth by the Military Treatment Facility (MTF) to include, but not limited to, the following: 

DUTIES:

* Manage a caseload. Write reports and attend multidisciplinary case meetings to plan and review ongoing treatment

* Act as the liaison with a wide variety of professionals, such as doctors, physiotherapists, social workers, equipment suppliers and architects, family members, caregivers, and employers to give a consistent continuum of care to the patient. Coordinate patient referral to other medical providers and families.

* Devise treatment plans, supervise OT Aids, review treatment plans periodically and evaluate progress and modify the treatment as appropriate.

* Develop a rehabilitation programs which will help re-build lost skills and restore lost confidence. Teach anxiety management techniques to patients, family members and caregivers.

* Coach people with learning difficulties or poor social skills, e.g. in handling money and social interaction. 

* Mentor and coach patients, with various types and severity of disability, on how to control their own behavior and improve social skills to better deal with public and home settings.

* Advise staff members, family and caregivers on home and workplace environmental modifications. Propose solutions to reduce the challenges and obstacles in participating in activities of daily living.

* The demonstrated ability to act on all medical and therapeutic orders in a timely manner.

* Can demonstrate and adhere to peri-operative, infection control and safety policies and procedures. 

* Can demonstrate good time management skills.

* Demonstrate excellent written communication skills to perform accurate documentation, both written and electronic, of all activity in accordance with requirements.

* When required, participate in the orientation, training, and evaluation of duty performance of newly assigned personnel, as appropriate.

* As required, participate in customer service initiatives and medical readiness activities, designed to enhance health services.

* Ensure compliance with standard of care and practice in accordance with all established policies, procedures, and guidelines used in the medical treatment MTF and IAW JC guidelines. Provides care within ethical and legal boundaries.

* Complete orientation and competency verification programs in accordance with unit guidelines.

* Will report to the Occupational/Physical Therapy Clinical Director. 



Qualifications

* Education: Bachelor degree or higher in Occupational Therapy accredited by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE).

* Licensure: Must possess a valid, unrestricted, license, in Occupational Therapy, from at least one state, territory or commonwealth of the US.

* Experience: Must be continuously employed for a minimum of one year, as an OT in a hospital or clinical setting

* Other Required Knowledge & Experience: 1) Shall be able to read, write, speak and understand English well enough to effectively communicate with all patients and other health care providers.  2) Shall be knowledgeable of equipment and supply terminology and skill sufficient to identify and use necessary equipment and supplies properly and to communicate proper use with nurses, medical staff, patients, and family members.  3) Shall be sufficiently skilled to teach patients proper self-care and to motivate patients and family members to continue the procedures for promoting rapid healing.  4) Shall be knowledgeable and possess skills necessary to provide care appropriate to any age-related needs of the patients. The Contract OT shall demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development appropriate to the appropriate patient population served: Infants, Children, Adolescent, Adults, and Geriatric (>65).  5) Assess, coordinate, facilitate, deliver and evaluate care for infant to geriatric patients using the nursing process.  6) Knowledge of computer operations and proficiency in the use of basic word processing, data entry and automated medical records. 

Certification: Maintain current certification in American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers.

* Must be a U.S citizen and have the ability to pass a background check/security clearance.

Additional Information

STAFFING & SCHEDULING:

* Usual duty hours for this position are Monday through Friday between the hours of 0700-1630 for a period of 8.5 or 9 hours (which includes an uncompensated 30 minutes to 1 hour for lunch depending on shift length). 

* There will be an occasional Saturday scheduled every 4-6 weeks if necessary.
