Job Description

Job Summary

The Quantity Surveyor will take responsibility, ownership and accountability of the successful management and control of all aspects of the commercial/financial and contractual elements of the project(s) in order to control and maximise the company’s profitability, protect the company’s legal and contractual obligations under the contract and to manage proactively the control of all commercial issues. This is to include enduring applications and valuations are completed in line with the contract terms and also ensuring sub-contractors receive prompt payment and are procured in line with company contractual obligations and commitments to Subcontractors.  In addition, ensuring cost reports and the like are managed, completed on time and monitored. To understand, adhere and implement the commercial systems and procedures, as well as the company’s SHEQ policies/strategy.

 

 

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Compliance and achievement of project, procedures, personal targets and initiatives.
  • Promote a sense of Teamwork with your Operational equivalent.
  • Understand and promote the company values & Group procedures.
  • Proactively contribute to the project team.
  • Build working relationships with supply chain, consultants and clients where appropriate.
  • Ensure the project team achieve or exceed budgeted targets.
  • Identify potential disputes in a timely manner to
  • Line Manager, including management of such matters as appropriate.
  • Ensure subcontract orders accurately reflect the main contract requirements and scope of works, and procurement managed to programme.
  • Accurately value, certify and issue any relevant payment notices for the subcontract works in accordance with the conditions of their subcontract.
  • Ensure that external valuations are submitted in accordance with conditions of the main contract and that payments are received by the due date, taking full responsibility for the project’s cash position.
  • Complete CVR reports, ensuring they accurately reflect the current position on site and the final profit projection.
  • Achieve timely and equitable resolution of client and supply chain final accounts.
  • Provide early warning of future financial problems and ensure accurate real time reporting.
  • Manage and minimise non recoverable costs on projects.
  • Develop and manage junior surveying staff.
  • Price and effectively agree project variations.
  • Creatively consider value engineering and improved buildability solutions.
  • Correctly identify and prepare contractual notices for all events and administering the main contract conditions accordingly.
  • Working collaboratively and communicating effectively with other areas of the Glencar Construction business to provide exceptional support
  • To work to the Company’s Quality, Environmental and Safety Management System standards and performance criteria including delivering the objectives set
  • To co-operate on matters of health and safety and follow the training provided. To take reasonable care of personal and other’s health and safety at all times
  • Any other duties consistent with the role of Quantity Surveyor as may be required from time to time.

Qualifications

Qualifications/Experience

Essential

  • HND or Degree in Quantity Surveying or appropriate alternative.
  • 5 years of experience in the industry working in a quantity surveying role.
  • Valid driving licence.

Proven experience

  • Successful procurement.
  • Knowledge of relevant computer software such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Microsoft Project.
  • Re-measurement of high-risk packages and key trades.
  • Knowledge of relevant contract conditions, including JCT/NEC/PPC.
  • Financial/cost control leading or assisting in a relevant project.
  • Up to date relevant knowledge of building legislation and construction industry.
  • Min 5 years of work experience in the construction industry.
  • Efficient use of resources.
  • Controlling costs in accordance with budget.
  • Dealing with a variety of forms of construction such as Concrete Frame, Steel Frame etc.
  • Highly organised and able to work under pressure.
  • Reading and accurately interpreting drawings and specifications.
  • Pricing and timely agreement of client and supply chain variations and value. engineering.
  • Maintaining technical knowledge and understanding.
  • Understanding of contract law.
  • Demonstrable an effective system of managing priorities and one’s self.
  • Excellent verbal communication and numerical skills.
  • Excellent negotiation/influencing skills.
  • Playing an active role which positively contributed to a team.

 

Desirable

  • Good level of experience in dispute resolution and contract administration.
  • Ability to remain positive and focused at all times.
  • Working towards professional membership of MCIOB or RICS.
  • Appropriate CSCS card.
  • Good level of education to include 5 GCSEs at Grade C or above, A Levels.
