Job Description

Job Summary

The Senior Quantity Surveyor will take responsibility, ownership and accountability of the successful management and control of all aspects of the commercial/financial and contractual elements of the project(s) in order to control and maximise the company’s profitability, protect the company’s legal and contractual obligations under the contract and to manage proactively the control of all commercial issues.  This is to include managing other commercial and operational resources, ensuring applications and valuations are completed in line with the contract terms and also ensuring sub-contractors receive prompt payment and are procured in line with company contractual obligations and commitments to Subcontractors.  In addition, ensuring cost reports and the like are real time, managed, completed on time and monitored. To understand, adhere and implement the commercial systems and procedures, as well as the companies SHEQ policies/strategy.

 

Duties & Responsibilities

·          Compliance and achievement of project, procedures, personal targets and initiatives.

·          Promote a sense of Teamwork with your Operational equivalent.

·          Consistently promote the company values and procedures.

·          Maintain key relationships with supply chain, consultants and clients.

·          Ensure the project team achieve or exceed budgeted targets.

·          Identify potential disputes in a timely manner.

·          Place high quality subcontract orders in accordance with the procurement schedule.

·          Ensure subcontract orders accurately reflect the main contract requirements and scope of works.

·          Accurately value, certify and issue any relevant payment notices for the subcontract works in accordance with the conditions of their subcontract.

·          Ensure that external valuations are submitted in accordance with conditions of the main contract and that payments are received by the due date, taking full responsibility for the project’s cash position.

·          Complete CVR/Forecast reports, ensuring they accurately reflect the current position on site and the final profit projection.

·          Achieve timely and equitable resolution of client and supply chain final accounts.

·          Provide early warning of future financial problems and ensure accurate real time reporting.

·          Manage and minimise non recoverable costs on projects.

·          Manage, train and develop junior surveying staff.

·          Price and effectively agree project variations.

·          Creatively consider value engineering and improved buildability solutions.

·          Correctly identify and prepare contractual notices for all events and administering the main contract conditions accordingly.

·          Accurately promote strong teamwork between all disciplines.

·          Actively support business priorities and promote the company externally.

·          Working collaboratively and communicating effectively with other areas of the Glencar Construction business to provide exceptional support

·          To work to the Company’s Quality, Environmental and Safety Management System standards and performance criteria including delivering the objectives set

·          To co-operate on matters of health and safety and follow the training provided. To take reasonable care of personal and other’s health and safety at all times

·          Any other duties consistent with the role of Senior Quantity Surveyor as may be required from time to time.

Proven experience of

·         Wide experiment in a relevant Main Contracting Senior Commercial Role.

·         Extensive knowledge of relevant computer software such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Microsoft Project.

·         A detailed knowledge of relevant contract conditions, including JCT/NEC.

·         Up to date relevant knowledge of building legislation and construction industry.

·         A full successful track record in leading financial management and cost control on projects.

·         Delivering projects.

·         Efficient use of resources.

·         Dealing with a variety of forms of construction such as Concrete Frame, Steel Frame etc.

·         Highly organised and able to work under pressure.

·         Controlling costs in accordance with budget.

·         Man management.

·         A high level of organisation and achieving deadlines.

·         Reporting on a number of simultaneous projects.

·         Maintaining technical knowledge and understanding.

·         Demonstrable understanding of cash management.

·         Understanding of contract law.

·         Feedback new and effective systems and controls into the business.

·         Positively reacting to change and assisting in its implementation in the business.

·         Demonstrable experience in line management and developing junior team members.

·         Excellent verbal communication and numerical skills.

·         Excellent negotiation/influencing skills.

Qualifications

Qualifications/Experience

Essential

·        Degree in Quantity Surveying or appropriate alternative.

·        Experience within a Senior Management position.

·        Valid driving licence. 

·         8 years of working experience in the construction industry.

·         Appropriate CSCS card.

·        Good level of experience in dispute resolution and contract administration.

·         Ability to lead issues outside own discipline where required.

·         Ability to remain positive and focused at all times.

·         Working towards professional membership of MCIOB or RICS.

·        Good level of education to include 5 GCSEs at Grade C or above, A Levels.

·        Construction related degree.
