About the Energy, Resources and Infrastructure team

Our team advises sponsors, borrowers and lenders on infrastructure, energy, resources, acquisition and project finance transactions. We combine deep financial market knowledge with strong commercial focus to deliver successful outcomes across the full lifecycle of energy and infrastructure projects.

You will be working closely with Adela Smith, a recognised leader in project finance and infrastructure. Her practice spans the energy sector (including renewable energy), digital and social infrastructure and resources, and she brings international experience from Latham & Watkins and Linklaters in London and Germany. Adela has acted on many landmark transactions, including the $3.5 billion acquisition of Vocus Group by Macquarie Asset Management and Aware Super, the $3 billion acquisition of Tilt Renewables, the acquisition of AirTrunk by Macquarie Asset Management, and major PPPs, including in the social and affordable housing space.

In addition, you will work with partner Jamie Guthrie. Jamie advises sponsors, financiers and government bodies on complex energy and critical infrastructure projects, with a strong focus on renewable energy. He has more than 15 years’ experience across solar, wind, battery storage, pumped hydro, waste-to-energy and hydrogen projects and advises on a broad range of financing structures, including syndicated and bilateral debt, export credit, multilateral and acquisition finance. His experience includes the $2.3 billion financing of Global Power Generation Australia’s renewables portfolio, the $750 million platform financing for ACEN Power, the $777 million Genex pumped hydro financing, the $5.4 billion Tunnel, Stations and Development PPP in Queensland and the $9.6 billion WestConnex disposal.

Alongside Adela and Jamie, you will work closely with Special Counsel James Frixou, who advises on major domestic and cross-border project finance transactions, with a focus on infrastructure, including PPPs, social and affordable housing, digital infrastructure (including AI) and the resources sectors. He also has experience advising on property and development finance, leveraged finance and acquisition finance, funds finance and restructurings.

James has led the debt financing workstreams on various landmark transactions, including the largest private credit financing for Australian AI infrastructure company Firmusand other notable deals below:

  • Tetris Capital on multiple projects to be delivered under the Vic Social Housing Growth Fund (AHPP)
  • Housing Australia on the Tetris consortium’s successful bid and financial close for the GLM2 PPP
  • Tetris Capital on its sponsor role to bid for the delivery of the $1 billion Melton Hospital
  • Plenary on its $3.4 billion project financing and bid for VicRoads’ business.

The role will primarily involve project finance transactions in the infrastructure (PPPs, social and affordable housing and other infrastructure), energy and resources sectors, with the opportunity to support the team on other financings, including acquisition financings.
