Job Description
Job Purpose:
Are you a game designer with solid international experience in creation and/or liveops? We are looking for a talent like you to join Gameloft Saigon! Our team of 20+ multicultural game designers are working on exciting projects, both independently and in co-development with other Gameloft studios around the world, involving famous IPs and a variety of game genres, including open-world adventure, racing, action, casual, educational kids’ games. Bringing both rich expertise and versatility, you will play a key role in our journey to build a strong game design team through hands-on collaboration, knowledge sharing, internal training, within our growing studio in the vibrant Ho Chi Minh City.
You will play an important part in shaping the gameplay experience on our PC and Console projects. You’ll help turn ideas into solid features, refine gameplay systems, and work closely with the team to build fun and memorable experiences.
- Create clear and practical design documents that explain the game’s mechanics, systems, and player experience in a way the whole team can follow.
- Design and balance gameplay elements, making sure the rules, pacing, and moment-to-moment experience feel right and support the game’s vision.
- Develop mission ideas, level concepts, and gameplay scenarios, ensuring they fit naturally within the world, story, and intended player flow.
- Support writing needs when required, such as in-game text, UI descriptions, gameplay explanations, and simple narrative elements.
- Work closely with Artists, Programmers, and other Designers to make sure features are implemented as intended and match the quality we’re aiming for.
- Assist with ongoing prototypes and new projects, helping to shape early concepts and give constructive feedback.
- Offer guidance to junior designers, helping them grow their design thinking, creativity, and understanding of our workflows.
- Support Senior/Lead Designers and Producers in solving design challenges and improving the overall quality of the team’s work.
Main Responsibilities:
- Take on game design tasks assigned by the Senior GD, Project Lead, or Studio GD Lead, and always look for ways to improve the quality of your work.
- Review competitor games and other creative media to gather references and spark new design ideas.
- Stay updated on design trends, tools, and player expectations through learning, workshops, or industry events when possible.
- Help balance and fine-tune gameplay to ensure the experience feels fun, fair, and aligned with the game’s vision.
- Support playtests and review feedback to make sure the gameplay matches the intended direction.
- Maintain clear and well-organized documentation for mechanics, features, flow, and guidelines.
- Contribute to defining secondary game elements such as currencies, shop items, menus, and overall player flow.
- Support discussions around meta-game, progression, and retention strategies.
- Create simple prototypes or test ideas to explore gameplay possibilities.
- Participate in regular design reviews and provide constructive feedback to ensure the game stays on track.
- Work closely with Programmers and Artists to make sure features are implemented properly and match the intended quality.
- Report, track, and help resolve design-related issues and bugs.
- Help organize documentation and communication with the production team to keep the workflow clear and efficient.
- Ensure features and documents delivered to HQ or external partners are clean, organized, and aligned with project goals.
Qualifications
- Good English skills.
- More than 2 years of experience in Game Design, along with a strong passion for video games and solid understanding of market trends and retro gaming.
- Solid knowledge of core Game Design principles across aspects such as gameplay mechanics, systems, UI/UX and player progression. Your expertise in level design and combat design is a plus.
- Proficient in game design supporting tools and game engine such as Unity, Unreal Engine.
- Experience collaborating with data analyst and designing with a data-driven mindset.
- Great communication, presentation, and pitching skills.
- Creative problem-solving skills with a passion for creating entertaining and high-quality games.
- Flexible, self-disciplined, highly motivated, and committed to achieving the final game result and company goals.
