This role is accountable for managing and achieving both short and long-term procurement goals and ultimately growing profitability of the company through proactive management of the procurement functions. This position is responsible for the overall management of the Inventory Control team. Key team responsibilities include the identification and implementation of processes to improve the supply chain; particularly demand planning and purchasing of inventory. This role plays an integral part in establishing and managing long term agreements with key suppliers. The Inventory Control Manager will ensure adherence to procurement policies and procedures for the inventory control team. This position will also include leveraging data and analytics to affect process improvement and reporting KPIs to senior management.
Responsible for day to day management of the Inventory Control staff and associated professional development to maximize technical excellence and promote personal growth.
Train new hires and evaluate existing employee performance.
Initiate hiring, promotions, transfers or disciplinary actions.
Liaise between staff and senior management to ensure organizational goals and objectives are effectively communicated and met.
Correctly interpret and enforce company policies and safety procedures to ensure compliance.
Develop and implement strategy to continually improve customer order turnaround time and initial order fill rates.
- Develop and implement strategy for continuous improvement of inventory control and supply chain metrics.
Negotiate discounts with publishers and manage renewals of meet-the-competition terms in order to maximize gross profit margin.
Oversee processes to ensure vendor Purchase Orders are accurate and timely.
Responsible for forecasting and inventory management of all book categories.
Collaborate closely with other departments whose daily activities impact inventory management; particularly Receiving, Customer Care, and Accounting.
Use historical data, forecasting tools, & sales performance for purchasing decisions per category
Responsible for meeting inventory turnover and availability goals
- Bachelor’s degree required; preferably a B.S. in supply chain, business or other related field
- 7-10 years of inventory control experience required.
- 5-7 years of supervisory and/or management experience required.
Proficient in Microsoft Office with an emphasis on Excel
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Solid organizational and planning skills.
