Job Description

The Senior Payroll Specialist assists in the thorough administration of the payroll process by ensuring the accuracy of payroll data and making payments to employees and remittances in a timely manner.

The following are examples of the duties and responsibilities of the Senior Payroll Specialist: 

Canadian Payroll 

  • Prepare bi-weekly payroll for all employees, based in Montreal, according to the established schedule and in compliance with applicable standards, regulations and laws
  • Produce payroll related reports
  • Pay all forms of compensation to employees (bonuses, vacation, overtime, etc.) 
  • Make adjustments to the payroll or corrections in the management system, if necessary
  • Reimburse expense accounts
  • Processing and regularly updating the integrity of the data required to process group insurance, pension plans and all other benefits
  • Validation of group insurance invoices and balancing with payroll data
  • CNESST: follow-up of employees with work permits
  • Resolve and validate payroll discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information
  • Planning and processing of year-end activities. Validations of remittances, summary 1, salary declarations, preparation of tax slips (T4, Relevé 1 and others)
  • Produce termination documents
  • Perform various analyses
  • Follow up on time sheets
  • Develop and maintain legislative knowledge of payroll
  • Participate in the creation and maintenance of payroll related processes

Qualifications

DEC, BAC in accounting and/or Canadian CPA payroll certification
Minimum of 7 years experience
Good knowledge of Excel and the Microsoft Office suite
Knowledge of ADP and HRIS systems an asset
Customer service oriented
Resourcefulness and initiative
Experience in HRIS implementation - payroll (Asset)
Excellent oral and written communication skills 
Bilingual
