General Dynamics in St Leonards-on-Sea currently provide avionic mission computing systems for a wide range of military fast jets, helicopters, and UAV’s.  Recent success has resulted in General Dynamics developing the next generation of Advanced High Performance, Safety Critical Mission Computer Systems to meet the needs of latest platforms in development by several aircraft manufacturers. These Mission Computing Systems provide the functionality that integrates aircraft systems, sensor systems and stores management systems with the information and control systems required by the aircrew to meet the demanding operational needs of these aircraft.

Working as a key member of our Systems Engineering team you will help to develop a range of product solutions to meet the needs of new and advanced avionic and maritime platforms.

The successful candidate will be assigned to one of our avionic or maritime product development teams and be involved in activities across the product development life-cycle.  This could include requirements analysis, requirements definition, requirements management, functional analysis, performance analysis, system design, trade studies, systems integration and test (verification), validation and interface definition studies of system elements

You will ideally be qualified in Systems Engineering, or a related Science, Engineering or Mathematics discipline. Some experience in the defence, avionics, aerospace or naval systems industry would be preferred but is not essential

You will ideally also bring with you some of the following:

• Experience in taking an active role in formulating operational concepts; performing mission, functional, cost-benefit and risk analysis; developing overall system architectures.
• Knowledge of formulating requirements specifications; test and verification procedures; integration testing and fault finding
• Experience with Digital Engineering, including Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) is desirable 
• Experience working with airworthiness standards (eg ARP4754, DO-178C, DO-254) is would be an advantage due to the nature of the programmes

Professional registration as a Chartered Engineer (CEng or equivalent) is desirable, but not essential. General Dynamics Mission Systems actively support employees in attaining CEng status. 

Starting salary for these positions will vary dependant upon the experience of the successful applicant.  We have positions for Systems Engineers, Senior Systems Engineers and Principal Systems Engineers.

We are open to hybrid working - ideally we would prefer Systems Engineers to be on site three days per week due to the nature of the role, however we are open to further discussion aiming to be as flexible as possible.
