Job Description

Are you eager to make a real impact on critical defense systems? We are currently looking for an experienced working level Mechanical Engineer to join our Specialty Mechanical team. This position follows a Hybrid working model with a mix of home and on-site work. 

In this role you will help lead electro-mechanical development through the full design life cycle, which includes development of high-level architecture, requirement management and analysis. Through collaborating with the Mechanical Design staff, you will help set technical direction to the production of mechanical concepts and designs of electronic enclosures and other mechanical systems. You will also:

  • Test plan development, execution and formal test reports;
  • Programmatic tasks including budget estimates, tracking & reporting
  • Responsible for verifying design compliance to specified requirements.  
  • Oversees, and performs comprehensive suite of engineering and design verification tests to demonstrate design compliance and verify design margins.
  • Leads Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) activities in trouble-shoot test failures and anomalies in determining both the root cause(s) and appropriate fixes.
  • Responsible for requirements management (definition, documentation, verification).  
  • Review analysis customer specifications, standards, regulatory specifications
  • Responsible for generating and contributing Mechanical Engineering requirements into equipment and system specifications. 
  • Responsible for working across the Integrated Project Team (IPT) to identify, analyze, optimize and effectively communicate cross-functional design requirements. May lead meetings.
  • Responsible for comprehensive application of multi-disciplinary engineering principles to ensure Mechanical design quality.  
  • Makes presentations of increasing scope at internal and customer-attended reviews;
  • Provides technical support to the IPT and particularly Manufacturing Operations during transition to production.
  • May act as a technical point of contact for the customer where the nature of the interaction is dealing with issues that are primarily technical in nature.
  • Continuous improvement mindset in driving changes to combat inefficiencies in procedures
  • Responsible for documenting, usually as the primary author, analyses, designs and tests (e.g., requirements specifications, interface control documents, design documents, simulation and analysis reports, design verification test plans/procedures and test reports).
  • May be assigned technical and programmatic responsibility for  engaging subcontractors/suppliers: generates the specification; assists in developing engineering management portions of the SOW; participates in fact finding and negotiations and provides ongoing technical oversight over the life of the project; assists in resolving technical issues; 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Engineering, or applicable technical or scientific discipline;
  • Typically requires a minimum of 4 to 5 years of related experience.
  •  Strong interpersonal and communications skills
  • Demonstrates ability to participate in technical reviews and inspections.
  • Very good ability to analyze/interpret mechanical technical drawings
  • Demonstrated ability to generate high quality technical reports,
  • Good understanding of manufacturing and fabrications processes to assess, troubleshoot and work collaboratively with Designers (and other members of the Integrated Project Team) to optimize product and system designs. 
  • Understands Project Management principles and Performance Measurements (metrics) and their application and value on specific projects
  • Has a very good understanding of the Integrated Product Development (IPT) approach (product development life cycle) and the nature of the deliverable and inter-dependencies of the multi-discipline engineering groups that collaborate in component, sub-system and system development.
  • Demonstrates leadership: helps to build consensus and works to bring out the best in other team members. Acts as a positive role model to more junior members of her/his team;
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain Canadian Security Clearance and a positive Controlled Goods Assessment. Eligibility to work in Canada either as a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident.
