Job Description

This role is for an experienced Systems Engineer working as part of the Applications and Interoperability team under the TACCIS portfolio of work. The role involves the design, development, release and maintenance of complex Tactical C4I systems using engineering disciplines to deliver customer and end user focused design services.

Work Tasks Include:

  • Adhere to engineering processes for specification, design, development, and validation at both the System and Product Level.
  • Conduct System Design tasks as part of a wider system design team.
  • Document design, system capabilities and user guidance in customer delivered technical documents.
  • Liaise with cross functional teams and specialist engineering areas including. Safety, Security and ILS, to develop and deliver quality working software solutions.
  • Conduct test activities on the system baseline, creating and maintaining test scripts, troubleshooting and reporting on results.
  • Support Defect Management Lifecycle activities at both the Product and System Level; includes raising informative defects with valid steps to reproduce, conducting in depth defect investigations and contributing to the defect sentencing.
  • Lab management and re configuration - Fill radios, encrypt, image, building etc.
  • Adhere to Lab teams GFE process (WASP)

Qualifications

  • Good understanding and experience of supporting and developing Tactical C4I Systems; knowledge of the BCIP system is desirable.
  • Capable of reading and generating design using SysML.
  • Capable of reviewing technical documentation and providing constructive feedback.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of all aspects of the wider System Engineering Lifecycle.
  • Knowledge of Windows Operating System including knowledge of Windows system internals; Windows 11 and Server OS 2022 or above is desirable.
  • A good understanding of Computer Networking to assist with problem solving issues.
  • Experience of using engineering methodologies and tools to manage requirements (DOORS), architecture/design (PTC Integrity Modeler), system integration and test (HP Application Lifecycle Management) at an appropriate level of detail is desirable.
  • Experience of Model Based Systems Engineering SysML/UML/System Modelling etc.  Deriving design artefacts (such as use cases, sequence diagrams, Interface Control Documents and specifications), at the System-Level and Product-Level, within a large Defence project.
  • Experience working in the field of Cyber Security Engineering is desirable.

This role can be either based full time in our offices in Oakdale or Hybrid working from home and our offices.

General Dynamics Mission Systems utilises QDOS IR35 Status Review.  The requirements of this contract have been evaluated as Outside IR35 – Prior to the engagement start you will need to complete a status questionnaire in order to receive the finalised status determination.
