FuseFX is an award-winning Visual Effects Studio providing visual effects services for episodic television, feature films, commercials, virtual productions, and VR. Founded in 2006, the company employs  800+ personnel  across  eight studio locations  and  three brands . Our flagship studio is in Los Angeles, CA, with locations in New York City, Vancouver, BC., and Atlanta. Our Montreal, Toronto, and Bogota studios are serviced by FOLKS VFX, who joined FuseFX in 2020. The Adelaide, Australia studio is serviced by Rising Sun Pictures, who joined FuseFX in 2021.

Job Description

The Director of Technology is responsible for oversight of the Global Infrastructure and IT Systems for all companies, including FuseFX, FOLKS VFX and Rising Sun Pictures. They also serve as the department head for all of IT. 

To be successful in this role, the Director of Global Technology should be a highly motivated, results-driven individual who can oversee and create the vision for the future of the IT Department.  They will work both in a technical and interpersonal capacity, maintaining open communication across all departments, including Leadership, IT and Production.

JOB SUMMARY

  • Work directly with CTO to create a vision for the IT department and implement goals with a focus on VFX workflows and internal customer service
  • Direct Local IT Managers, Global Systems Engineer, Systems Administrators and other technical professionals while providing oversight, guidance and efficient solutions for the department and studio
  • Oversee the design and implementation of IT Infrastructure at all locations
  • Oversee a global IT staff in multiple locations
  • Ensure critical IT issues and outages are dealt with in a timely manner and attention is put to mitigate regularly occurring problems
  • Maintain the development, management and continued evaluation of all technology to keep the company up on the latest technical innovations and remain the leader in our industry
  • Develop and implement strategy for ensuring and maintaining quality assurance, time management and control of technical production
  • Maintain industry standard security in all locations
  • Balance the needs of the IT department with consideration of staff skillsets as well as creating departmental goals and growth opportunities for individuals
  • Stay up to date on Production needs including Hardware, Software and IT issues that need to be resolved to keep production running smoothly
  • Maintain training needs for all offices, including internal training, up-to-date documentation and training materials for IT workflows
  • Liaise and negotiate with outside technical service providers and vendors for the company
  • Collaborate with HR and other members of the management team to recruit and interview potential candidates for IT

Qualifications

TRAITS of A SUCCESSFUL DIRECTOR OF GLOBAL TECHNOLOGY

  • Bachelors in Computer Science, Information Systems or comparable professional experience
  • Minimum 7-10 years’ experience managing an IT department, ideally in a creative, technical or entertainment company
  • Supporting 2D and 3D artists / applications, Nuke, 3DSMax, Maya, and Houdini ideal
  • Excellent communication and organizational skill with strong attention to detail
  • Strong professional relationships for both personel recruiting and vendor relationship

TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE

  • High Performance Storage Systems (Qumulo/Stornext/Isilon)
  • Active Directory including inter-platform authentication
  • Microsoft Enterprise applications (DNS, Group Policies, MS DHCP, DFS)
  • Virtualization (VMware/ ESXi)
  • Monitoring Platforms (Nagios, SolarWinds, PRTG, Grafana, Zabbix, RabbitMQ)
  • Common licensing mechanisms including FlexLM and RLM
  • Implementing Fast and Secure networks within the entertainment Industry
    • Brocade and/or Palo Alto
  • Integration of multiplatform OS environments (Windows / OSX / Linux)
  • Supporting network rendering, Thinkbox Deadline
  • Linux in a Business environment. (Debian, RHEL, Centos, and derivatives)
  • AWS Cloud Technology for Media and Entertainment solutions
