Company Description

What's Furbnow?

Furbnow is a retrofit service helping homeowners reduce their energy bills, cut their carbon footprint, and fix their cold homes. We guide customers through the messy, complicated decisions around upgrading their homes - then we actually get it done, from design through to installation, with expert support throughout.

Our customers are navigating something that's often costly, confusing, and frankly a bit scary. That's where we come in. And that's why what and how we communicate matters so much.

Why design matters at Furbnow

Our customers are on a journey involving multiple stakeholders - themselves and their family, our Furbnow assessors and experts, and our installers too. Thoughtful design is what turns a potential mess of missed expectations into a clear, confident experience.

You'll be shaping how homeowners understand their options, make decisions, and feel supported through a major home project. That's not just about making things look nice - it's about building trust, clarity and momentum at every step.

Job Description

About the role

You'll be our first in-house product designer, reporting to our Chief Product & Technology Officer and working closely with our colleagues in growth, product and engineering. You'll own design across:

Our digital platform - the backbone of how we communicate with customers, from first engagement through to project completion. Your job is to make it useful, clear and effective.

Growth experiments - testing new ways to engage prospects at the top of the funnel and understand what they need.

Internal tools and supplier interfaces - so our team and installers can move fast and stay coordinated.

What you'll be doing

Designing end-to-end experiences. You'll take problems like "how do we present options to a customer" or "how do installers know what's expected" and turn them into flows, prototypes and eventually shipped features.

Talking to customers. You'll speak directly with homeowners, run usability tests, and use what you learn to shape what we build.

Designing for growth and conversion. You'll own the design of our acquisition and activation experiences. This means designing landing pages, testing signup flows, optimising conversion points, and being part of experiments that seek to understand what drives homeowners to take action. You'll work directly with our Growth team to test hypotheses, interpret results, and iterate quickly based on data.

Building and owning your tech stack. You'll choose and implement the design tools, processes, and systems that work best for you and the team. Whether that's Figma, prototyping tools, design systems, component libraries, or AI-powered workflows, you'll have full ownership to set up what you need to be effective.

Moving fast and learning. Some weeks you'll ship scrappy experiments just to learn. Other times you'll slow down and obsess over the details that make things feel trustworthy and polished.

Working as one team. You'll be collaborating closely with our Product Lead, founders, growth and engineering teams. No handovers or working in isolation.

Building foundations. You'll help establish our design system, patterns and ways of working as we scale.

Qualifications

A bit about you

You've got a few years under your belt. Around 3 years of professional experience in product or UX design. You've shipped real things and know what it takes to get from idea to impact.

You’re a design generalist. You might have a refined specialism, but you’re comfortable covering the full design spectrum.

You're comfortable with ambiguity. You don't need perfectly defined requirements - you can take a fuzzy problem and figure out what needs to happen.

You care about the details, but not at the expense of learning. You know when to ship rough and test, and when to slow down and get it right.

You enjoy talking to users. You'd rather put ideas in front of customers and learn than design in a vacuum.

You communicate openly. You share work early, bring people into your process, and see product and engineering as creative partners, not just people who execute your designs.

You care about impact, not output. Shipping something doesn't count unless it actually helps customers. You want to track what works, not just tick boxes.

You work like it's 2025. You're curious about new tools and approaches. We use AI in our work, and we expect you to explore how it can make you faster and better.

You're hungry to grow. You're not set in your ways. You're open to feedback, eager to improve, and excited to help build something from the ground up.

This role isn't for you if...

You want a hands-off senior role. This is hands-on, in-the-weeds design work. You'll be doing the work, not just directing it.

You need everything defined for you. We're a small team moving fast. You'll need to be comfortable with ambiguity and figuring things out as you go.

You want months to polish one project. We move quickly. Sometimes you’ll need to be scrappy and ship fast to learn. If you need every project to be perfect before it sees daylight, this won’t be the right fit.

You prefer working in isolation. Design at Furbnow means constant collaboration with customers, contractors, colleagues and our founders.
