Job Description

Freshworks is looking for an exceptional, tech-forward Engineering Manager — Platform Engineering to lead, scale, and inspire a world-class team building our foundational SaaS ecosystem. This is a crucial techno-managerial role requiring a masterly balance of deep architectural authority, execution excellence, and empathetic people leadership.

In this role, you will lead the engineering vision for core platform capabilities that act as the backbone of all Freshworks products globally. Your team’s charter spans high-velocity, internet-scale domains including data entity platforms, distributed entity stores, workflow-as-a-service, platform automations, unified search, knowledge bases, omnichannel communication engines, business foundations, and global data governance. If you are passionate about multi-tenant architectures, cloud-native infrastructure, and transforming talented engineers into elite technical leaders, this platform-wide mandate is built for you.

1. Roles & Responsibilities (R&R)

  • Architectural Oversight & Technical Standards: Own the technical architecture, drive high-level design choices, and confidently shoulder critical technical decisions. Establish and enforce engineering practices that guarantee 99.99%+ reliability and extensible code.

  • Balanced Product Delivery: Strategically prioritize, roadmap, and ship platform features while systematically reducing architectural debt. Maximize engineering efficiency without compromising long-term technical depth.

  • People Engineering & Mentorship: Actively manage, coach, and elevate a talented team of engineers. Own their career paths, deliver continuous feedback, lead performance review cycles, and implement professional growth plans to align individual career aspirations with organizational success.

  • Pod Culture & Morale: Cultivate a high-accountability, low-friction team environment. Act as a servant leader by aggressively unblocking your engineers, resolving technical gridlocks, and maintaining stellar team morale.

  • Cross-Functional & Stakeholder Synergy: Partner fluidly with product managers, UX designers, QA squads, and customer support channels to map requirements, triage infrastructure issues, and drive platform-wide initiatives to resolution.

  • Talent Acquisition & Scaling: Act as a core hiring champion in partnership with Talent Acquisition to actively source, screen, interview, and onboard top-tier engineering talent to fuel your team's expansion.

  • Process Optimization: Continuously optimize your pod's developer velocity and output by investing heavily in cutting-edge tech stacks, automated testing, and seamless CI/CD delivery pipelines.

  • Polyglot Technical Leadership: Exceptional capability to grasp, evaluate, and advise across diverse tech stacks and programming paradigms, picking the right tool for the structural challenge at hand.

  • Empathetic Leadership & Performance Management: Proven capability to run objective annual evaluations, manage performance metrics, handle interpersonal team dynamics, and inspire technical professionals.

  • Executive Communication: High proficiency in translating complex architectural roadmaps, infrastructure failures, or technical progress into crisp, business-oriented updates for cross-functional stakeholders.

4. Qualifications

  • Total Experience Baseline: A minimum of 10 years of professional software development experience within a commercial, product-led software environment.

  • Hands-on Craft Heritage: At least 6 years of proven track record as an individual contributor (IC) focusing on Object-Oriented software design and distributed systems infrastructure.

  • Management Credentials: A minimum of 3 years of experience explicitly managing, mentoring, and scaling high-performing, agile engineering teams.

  • SaaS Acumen: Documented experience designing and operating web-scale platform systems, APIs, microservices, or foundational infrastructure services.

  • Academic Threshold: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or equivalent operational experience.
