Job Description
This role is expected to be a subject matter expert in all areas of payroll processing and will perform all activities necessary to process payroll accurately, including maintaining related records, filing tax reports and voluntary deduction reports, processing involuntary deductions such as levies and garnishments, preparing accounting transactions and documents, documenting and updating procedures, and preparing special reports for management. This person will be entrusted cross-functional business partner with various internal teams while ensuring compliance.
Please note: This is a hybrid position (3 days a week at the San Mateo office)
Key Responsibilities
- Process multi-state US exempt and non-exempt payroll, including processing accurate and timely semi-monthly, processing new hires and terminations, RSU income, etc.
- Generate and audit basic and simple reports as requested
- Provide a high level of customer service in responding to payroll-related inquiries.
- Partner with Human Resources and other internal departments to obtain accurate payroll data for processing payment and benefits changes
- Ensure payroll operations are conducted per the company’s internal procedures and maintain appropriate documentation for SOX support.
- Perform other payroll-related duties, including ad hoc projects/system implementation/testing, data requests as needed
- Prepare payroll-related journal entries and assist with month-end and quarterly close activities
- Ensures compliance with federal, state, local and other laws, including filing of returns as needed
- Ongoing identification of operational & regulatory risk, ensuring clear mitigation plans are identified, tracked and implemented
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have prior experience processing payroll in a complex, dynamic and diverse environment and will be able to leverage prior US payroll experience to help create scalable processes. To be successful in this role, the candidate will need to be organized and deadline-driven, ensuring recurring assignments are handled on a timely basis while contributing to special projects and addressing unusual developments.
- 5+ years of relevant work experience
- Experience with ADP Workforce Now required
- Ability to manage workload in a SOX-compliant environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to effectively communicate across departments and at all levels
- Familiarity with RSU and ESPP processing and reporting
- Knowledge of multi-state and Federal Labor laws, pay practices, and policies
- Understanding of various employment tax and overtime rules, employee 401K, incentive/bonus offerings, multi-state payroll, leave of absence pay integration, and termination processing
- Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to identify issues and propose solutions to complex or non-standard situations
- Strong work ethic and ability to be productive and successful in a fast-paced work environment

The annual base salary range for this position is between $115,000 -167,000
Compensation is based on a variety of factors including but not limited to location, experience, job-related skills, and level.
