Job Description
At Freshworks, we are betting on our developer platform to ensure our SaaS products can
be tailored to the tastes of each of our customers. As an Engineering Manager in Developer Relations, you will experiment, create and iterate on initiatives that foster the very developer community that will craft applications and integrations on our platform. You will build connections with developers worldwide, help them succeed with our platform and work with a team of ambitious developer advocates to create the kind of developer experience our fast growing community would love to be associated with. You will lead by example and help solidify the best practices with this discipline at Freshworks.
Overview of the role:
Freshworks seeks an experienced Engineering Manager to lead a growing team of Developer Advocates that delivers a world-class developer experience on our developer platform. As a technical leader, you own the operational as well as technical vision for Developer Relations at Freshworks, and oversee the craftsmanship standards your team thrives on. You coach and develop our promising, young talent and ensure their collective energy is applied effectively and efficiently to accomplish not only the organizational goals, but also their individual career goals. An accomplished record as an individual contributor and experience managing a team of engineers or developer advocates is expected to fill these shoes.
Responsibilities:
- Own the advocacy practices and craftsmanship standards for your team
- Mentor and coach Advocates on the team, leading by example.
- Keep abreast of technology trends that will influence the developer community and demonstrate how the platform can keep up.
- Collaborate with Product Management and Platform Engineering teams to ensure the best developer experience with every change we make to the platform.
- Drive advocacy programs within the platform to create tight feedback loops between the external developer community and the platform engineering teams.
- Collaborate with Platform Marketing to deliver community engagement programs that help Freshworks foster a tightly knit community around the platform.
- Collaborate with the various functions at Freshworks that must tap in to the developer community and craft programs for smooth communication and engagement.
- Represent the voice of the developer along with your team across all of Freshworks' products and engineering teams.
- Regularly check-in with your team members to unblock them as well as to craft and give shape to inspiring careers for each of them.
- Continuously improve the productivity of your team by investing in practices that help scale how we cater to a growing community of developers.
- Own the morale of your team, unblock them at critical junctures, break ties in a timely manner.
- Foster a culture of open feedback, innovation, fairness and agility, and inspire the best from your team at all times.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree with an emphasis in technology
- 8 to 12 years in professional full-stack engineering that includes relevant Developer Advocacy experience
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- A track record of public speaking and/or public writing
- Organizational talent to plan and execute successful programs spanning heavy cross-team collaboration
- An intuitive appreciation of developer experience built on both personal experience and empathy for other developers
- An active involvement as a contributor in developer communities for a significant period of time to have developed an appreciation of how they are fostered
Preferred Qualifications
- Curiosity towards technology, trends in computing and emerging frameworks
- Innate problem-solving skills that bring to bear elegant, simple solutions to complex problems
- A track record of building interesting hacks and personal projects (ideally, visible publicly on platforms like github)
- A bias to action that is driven by data and insights
- The ability to plan milestones for long running programs that the team can celebrate together
- Excellent collaborative skills that bind the work of multiple teams at Freshworks under a single Developer Experience banner.
