Job Description

Pay Range:  $104,500-$123,000 per year

  • Responsible for coordinating and managing the day-to-day operational and tactical aspects of multiple or large-scale capital projects.
  • Responsible for project development, design, application, management, and implementation of capital projects. Projects will cover a diverse range in scope, mainly in mechanical and ammonia refrigeration engineering to support the company’s aggressive innovation and growth strategy.
  • Work with Engineering, R&D, Food Safety, Environmental, Marketing, and Manufacturing departments to help bring to market new products or deliver successful manufacturing systems.  Must make decisions concerning plant layouts, equipment selections, project schedules, and cost requirements.
  • Responsible for managing outside engineering and construction management resources. Assist in developing and enforcing policies, standards, specifications, and practices that support and enhance the company’s objectives.
  • Interact with a broad section of the industry not only at the plant level but including government, vendor, and industry representatives. Perform other tasks, as deemed appropriate, to deliver food manufacturing-related solutions.
  • Responsible for all aspects of projects, including safety, quality, organization, planning, scheduling, subcontractor scheduling, and day-to-day issues. In addition, ensure projects are completed on time, on budget, and in a quality manner.
  • Work with business leaders and plant project team on planning and executing capital projects that will support the long-term vision of the business.
  • Manage the design and execution (i.e. scope, schedule, budget, and staffing) of projects, as well as identifying and recommending suggestions for improvement of engineering processes.
  • Manage project cost/budgets; regularly reviews and updates project and labor costs, processes change orders in a timely fashion, makes suggestions on improving overall productivity and cost savings.
  • Ensure all engineering projects, initiatives, and processes are in conformance with the organization’s established policies and objectives. Maintain a working knowledge of USDA guidelines and OSHA standards and be able to apply them to plant layouts and process designs.
  • Provide technical and engineering services and assist in resolving design issues.
  • Verify accuracy and completeness of submitted documents against contract drawings and specifications.
  • Communicate clearly, verbally and in writing, with plant and other company personnel as required.
  • Lead organizational growth by building strong relationships across business and functional boundaries.
  • Communicate with construction foremen, engineers, inspectors, estimators, and other company personnel.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s of Science in Engineering with 5 or more years of engineering experience in poultry and prepared foods process facilities (Advanced degree and/or Professional Engineer in mechanical engineering preferred).
  • Capable of working on multi-faceted projects of any magnitude while requiring little or no supervision; ability to complete complex projects on time and on budget.
  • Knowledge and ability of interpreting blueprints and specifications accurately and readily. AutoCAD and/or Revit experience is highly desirable.
  • Experience with facility mechanical systems including high and low pressure water, steam and boilers, pumps and blowers, natural gas and compressed air systems, sanitation and vacuum systems.
  • Knowledge of ammonia refrigeration, HVAC, and process safety management (PSM).
  • Understanding of NEC code, EPA, ASHRAE, and OSHA and their best practices.
  • Ability to multi-task by overseeing several projects.
  • Highly motivated, organized, and a self-starter.
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations and reporting practices.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with attention to detail.
  • Lead by example and follows company policies and ethical standards.
  • This is with 50% to 60% travel required.
