Job Description

Purpose of Position:

Responsible for managing the maintenance department, work completed by outside contractors, and ensuring proper function of equipment at the Fernando’s Plant to meet production goals and Company service, quality, cost, safety, and people objectives.

Essential Job Functions:

Optimize equipment operation time by utilizing employees to effectively carry out rapid equipment repairs and to effectively maintain equipment availability. Communicate and delegate tasks to entire maintenance department to best support the operations.

Establish and maintain Preventative Maintenance (PM) system, optimizing cost of repairs/replacements. Oversee scheduling of PM work, outside contractor work, and routine services during the course of the week.

Manage, develop and train maintenance supervisor and employees, working within the guidelines of Company Policies and Union contract.

Provide quick and timely feedback to plant manager on all exceptions in regards to downtime, quality yield, cost and safety and manage the correction of areas which are out of acceptable parameters.

Participate at department meetings in the planning process and to the testing and development of techniques/processes. These meetings include weekend planning, Management of Change (MOC), and MOC report out during safety committee meetings.

Take an active role in developing new project and capital expenditure; procure/ obtain contract quotes on projects requiring outside contractors. Manage project expenses and insure on time completion as well as within budget.

Ensure compliance of routine operating inspections that are required for safety and environmental (i.e., Boiler and Water heater emissions, waste management disposal, fryer exhaust opacity) -Maintain and update all Critical/PSM equipment maintenance and calibration records that are kept on file.

Supervise, coordinate, and monitor contractor performance and insure adherence to plant safety policies and requirement.

Ensure department compliance with Company policies, laws and regulations which include USDA, SSOP and HACCP programs and all OSHA required safety programs.

Administer to ensure that safety orientations and safety meetings are held as required to keep frequency and severity to a minimum.

Qualifications

Requirements:

Must have a B.S./B.A. and/or equivalent work experience

Must have three to five (3-5) years maintenance supervisory experience in a production environment

Must demonstrate project management and project development skills and experience

Must demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills with the ability to read, write and understand English; Bilingual English/Spanish helpful

Must be able to evaluate supervision/employees fairly and objectively

Must exhibit strong leadership skills and be self-motivated

Must be able to prioritize/adjust quickly to a changing work environment with minimal supervision to meet changing production needs

Must have strong electrical, refrigeration, mechanical and analytical skills

Must have strong controls and PLC knowledge

Must be able to read plan drawings. Knowledge and practical application of AutoCAD preferred

Must have a strong understanding and experience with regulatory compliance specific to food processing and environmental agencies, some of which include AQMD, Public Works, Building Safety, EPA, CalOSHA, County Sanitation, Public Health, USDA, FDA, etc.

Must be proficient in Microsoft Office and Operational programs

Must be able to work varying shifts and have regular attendance

Must be able to stand on the production floor for varying amount of times with or without accommodations

Must be able to submit and pass a criminal background check
