Purpose of position:
To assure Foster Farms maintains a competitive advantage in the area of packaging materials and capital costs through the development and testing of structures and respective machinery. Develop and implement product packaging strategies that incorporate breakthrough technology, product innovation, and operational services, at the lowest total cost. Provide packaging leadership and strategic contribution to the company’s Operations, Product Development, and Marketing departments.

Essential Job Functions:
Manage packaging design and implementation aspects of new product development across all production facilities working in conjunction with R&D, Marketing, Operations, Quality Assurance, Purchasing, and company suppliers.

Direct the technical development of product packaging during the design and investigate stages.

Develop start up protocol for plant trials and commercialization stage using commonly accepted KPIs from Operations and Marketing.

Oversee plant trials, reporting against predetermined KPIs, and oversee commercialization runs, gaining Plant Management and Marketing acceptance.

Trouble-shoot Customer, Operations, and Quality packaging or equipment concerns.

Ensure sufficient technical expertise to assure all company packaging is best in class with regards to new technologies and structures, respective of current machinery, and the functionality of the individual finished good.

Identify opportunities working with Suppliers, Operations, Marketing and Purchasing.

Lead and direct prioritized project lists with input from Marketing, Operations, and Purchasing.
Develop long term, sustainable solutions to address product requirements and company goals. 

Additional Functions:
Participate in Industry organizations as appropriate

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
BS degree in Packaging, Engineering, with an emphasis in flexible.

Seven-ten years of direct involvement in product development and commercialization testing. 

Proven project management skills and the ability to create change across multiple departments.

Must have a broad business perspective of the requirements for operating within a large vertically integrated organization.

Must have strong problem-solving skills, sound judgment and decision-making abilit

Must be able to communicate effectively with varying levels of management and team leads, both written and verbal

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
Broad knowledge of domestic food packaging requirements.

Field/Plant work required

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must have reliable transportation

Must be able to travel 50-60%

Must be able to obtain CA driver's license

Must be able to have consistent attendance in the Livingston, or other assigned Foster Farms’ Office

Must be able to sit for long periods of time

Must be able to drive to various company and vendor locations

Must be able to work on the computer for long periods of time
