Job Description

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

Under the direct supervision of the FSQA Compliance Manager, the FSQA compliance auditor is responsible for performing internal and external audits against company’s food safety and quality standards. This position will require the ability to travel to any of the Foster Farms processing facilities, to co-packers and suppliers. The successful candidate will be a self-starter with the ability to work independently to achieve cross-functional collaborative goals. The position provides visible quality leadership ensuring that Foster Farms food safety/quality standards are understood and met through on-site assessments. This position works closely with the FSQA Compliance Manager and other cross-functional teams to provide successful commercialization of new products at copackers.

This position is also responsible for assisting the FSQA Compliance Manager and FSQA Directors in performing supplier and ingredient risks assessment to determine the risk level and future audits.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Manage and perform on-site FSQA compliance audits at all Foster Farms facilities, co-packers and ingredient/packaging material suppliers, including the evaluation of potential co-packers and supplies to provide recommendations

Actively communicate with facility leadership teams and FSQA Management throughout all phases of the audit process

Document audit observations, generate audit results and corrective actions report

Review internal audits and inspections with FSQA Leadership to determine degree of compliance with the company’s food safety and quality standards

Perform supplier and ingredient risk assessments to determine product risk and audit schedules. Perform internal supplier approval assessments, review and recommend actions based on potential risk

Assist in the development and implementation of an integrated supplier risk management strategy

Monitor quality of product produced at Co-packer facilities through data evaluation, product cuttings on on-site visits.  Monitor complaints for assigned co-packers and drive continuous improvement

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s degree from a 4-year, accredited college or university, preferably in the area of animal or food science

Advanced degree in animal science, food science, or food safety preferred

Requisite 5+ years of work experience in food processing environment with food safety/quality programs focus

Understanding of GFSI auditing standards (e.g. BRC, SQF), HACCP and FSMA preventive controls

Understanding of food safety and quality risks associated with microbial, chemical and physical hazards

Proactive problem-solving and critical thinking approach to determine food safety risks and/or quality issues while auditing or while conducting risk assessments

Ability to think logically, problem solve and grasp concepts quickly

Strong writing and presentation skills, in order to communicate at all levels throughout the organization

This position requires strong interpersonal skills due to the visibility of the auditing process – audit summaries and corrective action follow-ups

Ability to execute sound judgment regarding communication for product disposition decisions

Self-starter, detail oriented, ability to work independently without direct supervision and instruction

Proficient use of Microsoft including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

Ability to work flexible hours,

Ability to travel at least 80% for business related visits (other plants), suppliers and co-packers
