Job Description

This full-time role is for a one-year maternity leave from approximately January 2018 – January 2019.

The Fortius Lab is a purpose-built, state-of-the-art human ​​​performance lab integrated within the Fortius Institute. ​​​ ​​​Our vision is to make applied biomechanics and exercise physiology accessible to all athletes, of all ages and to all levels of competition. The Exercise Physiologist will join team members from applied biomechanics and physiology and will be primarily responsible for the day to day delivery of applied physiology assessments and related programming. This will include physiological measurement and data analyses, maintenance and upkeep of lab equipment, and the recruitment of subjects for research when required.

Responsibilities: 

  • Data collection and processing for on-going exercise physiology services and research
  • Processing and reporting physiological data using a variety of equipment and software and delivering results to clients in a meaningful and engaging manner
  • Maintenance and calibration of Exercise Physiology laboratory equipment
  • Update and modify testing protocols and procedure changes as they arise 
  • Collaborate and support team members within the institute on all matters relating to applied exercise physiology
  • Contribute to the on-going development of the applied sport science services at Fortius
  • Participate in and contribute to the development of relevant research projects

Qualifications

  • M.Sc. degree in Exercise Physiology or related field is required 
  • CSEP-Certified Exercise Physiologist (CSEP-CEP) or currently in progress of completion
  • Minimum 1 year experience working in a high performance exercise physiology lab or similar setting required 
  • ISAK certification desired and phlebotomy certification would be an asset (or willingness to obtain certification)
  • Experience collecting data in a variety of areas, such as metabolic and cardiorespiratory fitness (ParvoMedics), pulmonary function & blood sampling 
  • Familiar with Cardiac Stress Testing
  • Proficiency using a variety of software programs (LabVIEW, MatLab, SRM/Golden Cheetah/WKO, Siliconcoach, Clinic Master) would be an asset
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office computer applications, with strong proficiency in Excel
  • Experience working with clinical and general populations in rehabilitation and health promotion
  • Experience working with elite athletes at a national, international, or professional level an asset 
  • Experience in athlete monitoring, data review and analysis, and reporting would be an asset
