Job Description

The Performance Rehabilitation Coach (PRC) works as a central member of the multi-disciplinary team that is dedicated to progressing injured and post-surgical clients through the Fortius rehabilitation pathway and back to their sport environment. PRCs work to facilitate a safe and smooth transition from rehabilitation into return to sport and subsequent performance training following their injury. The PRC is a sport performance specialist typically educated in the theoretical and practical elements of strength & conditioning and has extensive experience working in an integrated rehabilitation setting.

PRCs are expected to develop and deliver group and individualized programming in a variety of settings (outdoor training field, gymnasium, training centre, etc.). Working collaboratively with colleagues engaged in our rehabilitation pathway, they will develop and implement a variety of strategies designed to ensure effective communication both internally (between departments and practitioners within Fortius) and externally (surgeons, external therapists, coaches, IST members, etc.) that collectively result in an optimally integrated client experience.

The PRC should have experience in working with athletes in a variety of sports who have returned from injury and/or overcome pathological structural restrictions. The individual in this position must have experience working collaboratively with physiotherapy and/or chiropractic services, understand the connection to physiology and be able to incorporate objective performance measures understanding how these can assist in guiding the rehabilitation plan.

The successful applicant must be extremely organized and detail oriented and be able to clearly outline and communicate the objectives and the purpose of an integrated rehabilitation approach in a manner that the client is able to understand and appreciate. He/she will help to create a budget and a calendar that integrates multiple professional services and incorporates the client’s prioritized objectives.

Qualifications

- Master’s Degree with a focus on Kinesiology, Human Kinetics, Sports Sciences or a related field;
- Current strength and conditioning and exercise physiology credentials/certifications are expected (i.e. CSCS, CSEP-CEP, NSCA-CSCS, CSEP-CPT, ACSM Exercise Specialist, or equivalents);
- Minimum 2 years experience in a high performance team environment (national or professional team) working with injured athletes as part of an integrated service team;
- Minimum 5 years’ experience as a practicing professional in a multi-disciplinary environment and implementing strength and conditioning programs for the complete development cycle of an athlete;
- Has utilized performance technology data to assist with training plan development – i.e. Catapult, Polar Heart Rate Team System, force plates
- Experience with different training/conditioning modalities. Fortius has a Hydroworx 2000 underwater treadmill and it is expected that the PRC will be trained to provide support in this service area;
- Current First Aid and CPR.
