Job Description

The Tax Director will be responsible for leading all aspects of Pivotal’s tax practice (people, process, tools). This role will require a thorough understanding of federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations, as well as the ability to provide strategic tax advice to clients. The Tax Director will work closely with the firm's partners, other members of the tax team and the financial operations team, as well as directly with clients, to ensure that tax services are provided efficiently and effectively.

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead the tax practice at Pivotal, and oversee all tax compliance and planning services 
  • Train, develop and mentor tax staff to ensure that they are providing high-quality tax services to clients.
  • Stay up-to-date on changes to tax laws and regulations and communicate those changes to the firm's accounting team and clients as needed.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients to understand their unique tax needs and provide exceptional service.
  • Provide strategic tax advice to clients to help them minimize their tax liabilities and optimize their tax planning strategies.
  • Manage and review tax returns, tax estimates, and tax consulting engagements.
  • Work with the firm's accounting team to ensure that tax services are integrated with accounting and financial reporting services.
  • Ensure that tax services are provided efficiently and effectively, and that all deadlines are met.
  • Continuously improve processes and identify tools and technology that support Pivotal’s tax practice and clients’ needs.
  • Develop and implement metrics to measure efficiency and effectiveness of Pivotal’s tax practice. 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • CPA or advanced degree in taxation preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in tax compliance and planning, preferably in a regional or large local public accounting firm.
  • Possess and maintain a thorough understanding of federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with clients.
  • Experience leading a team and mentoring staff.
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Prior experience with leading tax tools including CCH Axcess (or Prosystems), Thomson Reuters Financial Projector, CCH Intelliconnect and Corvee tax planning software (or similar) is preferred.
  • Deep subject matter expertise in the areas of pass through entity and individual income tax; good working knowledge of C-corporations, estates, and trusts.
