Grand Canyon Lodge at North Rim is located at an elevation of 8000 feet. Your ability and willingness to work at a high elevation and a remote location are important factors in our hiring process.
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for the repair and maintenance of lodging units, facilities, equipment, vehicles, and property grounds.
Accurately enters and ensures the resolution of maintenance work orders and requests; Performs preventive, general, structural and routine maintenance.
Assists with training of Maintenance staff; Delegates and directs the work of maintenance staff as needed.
Makes minor repairs such as plumbing, electrical, mechanical and carpentry to lodging units and property facilities.
Operates and maintains hand tools including screwdrivers, hammer, steel measuring tape, utility knife, level, pliers, wrenches and socket wrench set, shovels, brooms, step ladders, etc.
Uses power-operated tools including nail gun, skill saw, screwdriver, drill, etc.
Drives and operates maintenance vehicles on and off property; Maintains maintenance vehicles and clean interior and exterior of vehicles as needed.
Accurately codes all maintenance related invoices.
May be responsible for maintenance of HVAC, pool, and lighting systems.
May be responsible for landscaping and property beatification projects; such as: mowing, trimming, planting, etc.
Responds to guest requests and questions; Acts is a professional manner.
Follows established safety protocols when operating all tools and applying all products in a safe and efficient manner.
Know and follow all company, Environmental, Health, and Safety Management Programs.
Follows the integrated pest management policy.
Knows and enforces company and property policies.
Properly uses all fire equipment on premises, as needed.
MARGINAL JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES/FUNCTIONS:
Assist other departments as need and requested, including Manager on Duty (MOD).
May be responsible for serving as a Security Officer.
Completes a monthly fire extinguisher check/report.
Knows and follows all company, Environmental, Health, and Safety Management Programs.
Works extra shifts and hours as required.
Assists in other departments as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS REQUIRED TO PERFORM JOB DUTIES:
Able to read, write and understand English in order to give and follow directions, instructions and to communicate with guests and coworkers.
Valid driver’s license with good driving record.
Ability to work on-call after normal work hours, as needed.
Ability to work with minimal supervision and be self-motivated.
Knowledge of safety and environmental policies.
Electrical, plumbing, mechanical and carpentry skills and knowledge.
Knowledge, skills and ability of proper use of hand tools including Able to use hand tools including screwdrivers, hammer, steel measuring tape, utility knife, cordless drill, level, pliers, wrenches and socket wrench set, shovels, brooms, step ladders, etc., and power-operated tools.
Ability to learn all company training materials.
Good time management, organizational skills including strong attention to detail, follow up and follow through.
Honest and trustworthy with company and guest property.
Able to work with liquids, gels, cleaners or other products.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM JOB DUTIES:
Climb stairs and walk on a variety of surfaces including paved, unpaved, wood, tile and uneven surfaces.
Stand/remain upright and walk during entire shift, up to 4 hours at a time.
Kneel, bend, stoop and squat repetitively.
Turn and twist repetitively.
Reach down, forward and overhead repetitively.
Work indoors and outdoors in a variety of weather conditions including extreme cold and hot weather for extended periods of time.
Perform manual physical labor.
Visual acuity to recognize and complete repairs and maintenance.
Able to use hand tools including screwdrivers, hammer, steel measuring tape, utility knife, cordless drill, level, pliers, wrenches and socket wrench set, shovels, brooms, step ladders, etc., and power-operated tools.
Lift up to 50 pounds frequently.
Lift up to 70 pounds occasionally.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED TO PERFORM JOB DUTIES:
Able to read and write English language
High school graduate
At least 5 years of prior maintenance work experience
Prior work experience in Security Position preferred but not required
Prior training and work in painting, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and or carpentry preferred
