The Air Force Wildland Fire Branch engages in wildfire prevention, fuels management, and wildfire suppression activities. Prevention, fuels management, and suppression allow the Air Force to maintain an effective training and testing tempo by minimizing the ability of wildfires to adversely affect missions.

Job Description
- Successful candidates will have extensive experience in risk management, technical document generation, wildland fire or prescribed fire operations, and highly effective communication skills. They will:
- Represent the AFWFB Headquarters on various safety committees and provide support to the regional and module leadership.
- Provide a safety perspective for INRMPS, WFMPS, Burn Plans, facilities, equipment, and operations.
- Work closely with equipment specialists, operations specialists, training specialists, program liaisons, facilities, and Fire Management Officers.
- Take part in preparedness reviews.
- Develop rapid lessons[MG1] sharing, lessons learned, and serious accident investigations and reports as needed.
- Interpret policy and provide guidance on implantation to regional and module programs.
- Coordinate with all partners of the AFWFB on revision, maintenance, and instruction of investigation policies and procedures to include injuries and serious accidents
- Serve as the safety coordinator to develop and implement a training program, a safety, health, and wellness program and periodically act as duty officer.
- Develop an annual safety plan and template, monthly safety messages, and quarterly safety reviews.
- Serve as an Executive Officer for the wildland fire branch, including, but not limited to: developing briefings for program and higher headquarter use; representing the branch on various panels and committees; manage the wildland fire workflow; and track various suspenses and taskers for leadership.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Comprehensive knowledge of safety and occupational health principles, practices, procedures, and standards applicable to a full range of administrative duties.
- Strong knowledge of risk management and mitigation.
- Strong knowledge of wildland fire management practices.
- High school diploma or equivalency.
- Valid driver’s license. Legally eligible to work in the U.S., capable of passing a background check.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Operational wildland fire experience.
- Knowledge of the OSH Act and OSHA regulations, ANSI, NFPA, ACGIH, NIOSH, DOT, FECA, and EPA (RCRA, SARA, FFCA, CERCLA) regulations sufficient to apply appropriate regulations to Branch operations.
- Strong knowledge of INRMPS, WFMPs, burn plans, and other technical fire documents.
- Ability to work as part of a team as well as independently.

Compensation and Timeline
Pay: $38.50/hr. Paid leave and paid holiday benefits are provided. Employer-sponsored health and dental care coverage is available for employees on the first day of the month after 30 days of continuous employment. Flexible Compensation Plan, and Short- and Long-Term Disability are available on the first day of the month after 60 days of continuous employment. Employer-sponsored retirement is available on the first pay period after 90 days of continuous employment. Housing is not provided. The Forest Stewards Guild is an equal opportunity employer. This is an at-will one-year position, with potential to renew. Preferred start date immediately. The average work week is 40 hours, but the schedule can vary. Up to 50 hours of OT per year are available depending on operational needs.

The position will be based at the Air Force Wildland Fire Branch office in San Antonio, TX.
