The Food Bank of Eastern Michigan serves as a common solicitor, storehouse and distributor of food on behalf of its Partner Agencies which are non-profit, charitable organizations serving those in need.

Today the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan provides over 25 million pounds of food each year to those in need through more than 415 partner agencies. Partner Agencies consist of local soup kitchens, shelters, and food pantries who strive to feed the more than 300,000 people in eastern Michigan who are food insecure. The excellent relationships established within the Food Bank’s 22 county service area and throughout the state has allowed for numerous programs and initiatives to help fight hunger.

Job Description

To provide Food Bank of Eastern Michigan with access to donated foods and materials throughout
eastern Michigan by representing the agency to major food companies and hauling food, while maintaining safe food handling practices, and materials to the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan while providing excellent customer service along with the ability to understand and comply with Feeding America & AIB/ Safe food

Must be available to drive Monday through Saturday, up to 30 hours per week.

  • Timely and professional execution of product
    donation pick-ups and deliveries for Food Bank, driving long distances to
    accomplish assignments

  • Maintain rapport with donors and/or their employees
    to foster continued support and a professional working relationship

  • Maintain accurate records of vehicle operations and
    maintenance on a daily basis, in compliance with DOT regulations

  • Load and off-load company vehicles as required.
    Exercise safe lifting practices.

  • Assist in maintaining an orderly and sanitary

  • Perform routine general maintenance and repairs on
    tractor/trailer, reporting problems to the Operations Manager

  • Serve as a back-up driver to any Class B Driver
    position as required/instructed by the Operations Manager

  • Complete and perform accurate follow-through on
    documentation for shipping, receiving, unloading and warehousing of product, as
    defined by FBEM policies and procedures

  • Inspect product donations to assure that safety and
    sanitation standards are met

  • Assist other drivers/warehouse staff with their
    responsibilities, as directed by the Operations Manager

  • Perform duties in accordance with FBEM safety

  • Maintain all current licenses, certifications and
    medical cards, in accordance/compliance with FBEM and State mandated

  • Perform other duties as assigned


  • High School Diploma or GED

  • Current Michigan CDL Class A

  • Current and maintained
    DOT/Medical Card

  • 1-2 Years of Professional Truck Driving Experience, Highly Preferred

Additional Information

The employee will carry out the job duties from a standard office environment.

Physical Demands:

On-the-road with frequent stops at agencies, suppliers, and donors. Working in all weather conditions on truck lift gates, parking lots, docks, and in donor/supplier warehouses and store back-ends.
