We take great pride in being an inclusive employer that offers equal opportunities, and we celebrate the diversity and multiculturalism of our team. We're growing fast and always pushing ourselves to do better - we play for #1.

In your role as an Associate Director of Software Engineering - Consumer (m/f/d), you will define how Flink's customers interact with our business to save them time by reshaping how they shop for groceries.

Job Description

  • You will be leading our Consumer Domain to build our shopping platform from product discovery, including search through to managing payments and post-order experience.
  • You collaborate closely with your product counterpart and other product teams and will be managing the engineering managers for the different teams within the Domain.
  • As a key part of our Senior Leadership team in Engineering, you set the tech strategy for your Consumer Domain and drive engineering initiatives that make Flink a great place for engineers to work.
  • You manage multiple cross-functional and self-organizing teams of frontend, mobile and backend engineering with full ownership of delivering outcomes.
  • Our business is growing at an unseen pace and you build reliable, scalable systems with high concurrency and are always eager to learn and implement new languages & technologies.
  • You are eager to dive deep into the details and objectives of the business and to work with your teams of engineers and managers to deliver measurable outcomes.
  • This role will not be hands-on with any coding whatsoever, the important thing here is to steer the ship; but first to create, set up and coordinate your teams and managers, and to scale at a very fast rate - therefore we would love to see and hear about experiences you’ve had in companies experiencing explosive growth, and how you managed that process.

Qualifications

  • You have 4+ years of experience in consumer-facing tech, building solutions for retail, media, search, eCommerce, or similar businesses and bring the domain expertise to make the right build vs buy decisions and quickly turn an idea into an MVP.
  • You have 5+ years of professional experience managing multiple teams and building complex products in the consumer space as Director, Head of or Engineering Manager (managing teams of at least 30).
  • You are hands-on when it comes to system design and architecture decisions and you can facilitate discussions with teams and engineers to move teams in the right direction. This means you bring experience in building distributed systems (service-oriented / microservices) architectural patterns, troubleshooting methods, and best practices.
  • You are pragmatic and understand what is needed to get things done collaboratively across a large organisation.
  • You can demonstrate how you achieved this success: processes, goals, KPI’s, hiring, firing, management skills, alignment, budgeting etc.
  • You have experience in scaling consumer-facing technology platforms serving thousands, or perhaps millions, of users across multiple geographies, ideally in the Q-Commerce/E-Commerce, grocery delivery, mobility, navigation/maps (or similar) area.
  • A passionate leader who can lead and inspire others.
  • Excellent communication in English.
