Job Description

The Geospatial Product Development Lead will use his or her creative abilities, technology skills and research methods to develop forest technology solutions based on Earth Observation, machine learning, mobile applications, and other technology solutions that drive business growth in our mission to sustainably manage forests, watch and measure forests from space, monitor the growth of trees to combat climate change, and fight forest fires.

Qualifications

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Lead a team of software engineers, full stack developers and remote sensing specialists, including hands-on development, to develop leading technology solutions that support our growth objectives
  • Support our business strategy through technical geospatial product development in collaboration with cross functional teams from forestry and Earth Observation to bring your ideas to life and to market
  • Ensure your team delivers extraordinary output, and continuously seeks ways to make an outsized impact
  • Design new and innovative applications to extract meaningful insights about forests and forest fires from Earth observation imagery

Qualifications and Experience

  • Degree in Computer Science, Math, Physics, Engineering, Geography, GIS or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Higher-level degrees an asset.
  • 3+ years of industry experience in developing custom remote sensing solutions with a proven track record of delivering complex or algorithmically sophisticated results
  • A strong sense of creativity that generates new product ideas and creative solutions.
  • Hands-on experience in managing or leading a team of employees.
  • Driven by doing research and development that produces new solutions
  • Strong sense of what solutions will drive market growth
  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills (written and verbal) to all levels of an organization,
  • Strong facilitation skills (requirements sessions, design meetings, progress and status meetings)
  • Experience applying remote sensing to forestry is an asset.

Technical and Scientific Skills

  • Advance Python programming experience and knowledge of AWS cloud services and solutions.
  • Advanced knowledge of current Earth observation satellite sensors, including both optical and radar sensors.
  • Advanced knowledge of remote sensing and image processing techniques.
  • High competence with GIS and image processing software (ArcGIS, QGIS, PostGIS, SNAP,
  • Basic knowledge of airborne lidar, satellite lidar datasets and lidar processing software
  • Past experience of developing data pipelines for large scale geospatial data processing and product development.
  • Working knowledge of GitHub.
  • Basic Knowledge of statistics (R)
