Job Description

Job Purpose:

This role is responsible for conducting fraud investigations, including Corporate fraud cases, cases related to WB Alerts and sensitive internal fraud cases assigned by Head of Fraud Investigations. The role holder should have ability to review investigation referral, prepare the investigation plan based on emerging concerns allocated for investigation, conduct investigation with independence ensuring completeness of procedures, write good & quality investigation reports with emphasis on presenting all important facts in a succinct manner. Job holder should assess cases where regulatory submissions are required and take reporting action accordingly. Where insurance notification is required, do so timely.

Key Accountabilities:

Core Responsibilities

  • Investigation of cases relating to CIBG e.g., Duplicate Invoice Financing, Business Email Compromise, Trade Finance frauds inter alia.  
  • Investigation of complex Consumer Banking cases e.g., set up company frauds, inter alia.
  • Review and investigation of alerts received from WB channels and other internal/ external channels
  • Usage of forensic tools and analytics as an effective aid to investigations.
  • Conduct Investigations in line with fraud risk policy and SOP/guidelines in line with best practices
  • Updated records of investigation progress and evidence on appropriate systems including Archer and Case Trac (WB channel)
  • Ensure that all findings of the investigations are backed by evidence and presented in appropriate format to support disciplinary action, legal action, filing of insurance claims etc
  • Respond to all the queries by stakeholders with regards to the investigation methodology, findings, and conclusion
  • To support fraud prevention & monitoring team by sharing details process gaps and lapses which contributed to the fraud incidents
  • Use alternative data approaches to progress/conclude the investigations
  • Support Head of Fraud Investigations

Job Context:

Specific Accountabilities

The bank has zero tolerance to fraud policy and job holder needs to ensure that incidents of fraud are investigated to confirm if those indeed are fraud so that appropriate action can be taken.

The bank has diverse business line which include Consumer banking, Corporate Banking, Global markets and supported by functions like operations, risk, HR, Credit etc. Accordingly, the job holder is expected to demonstrate working knowledge of products, industry, markets, financial statements so that he/she can work across all business/control/support groups and respond in a timely manner. Hence it is critical that the job holder, while having strong investigative skills, is able to demonstrate the following:

  • Conduct investigation of assigned cases across all business segments and products
  • Have a good understanding of bank’s approval process for different products, thereby having ability to ascertain fraud risks therein and do effective investigation.
  • Good understanding of legal, regulatory and insurance aspects in relation to the investigation to be able to fulfill all reporting obligations timely
  • Strong initiative and interactive approach to problem solving while displaying flexibility and independence in a demanding environment.
  • Have ability to adapt to investigative procedures as necessary in a changing environment, including exposure and ability to work with forensics team on increased usage of technology in investigative procedures, including mobile forensics, e-discovery platform, digital & cybercrime.
  • Have ability to make recommendations which are practical and implementable

Although a member of the second line of defense, the job holder is expected to play a strong partnership role.  He/She is expected to be solution oriented and requires out of the box thinking without seeking to dilute the high standards of fraud investigations.

Qualifications

Threshold Qualifications : 

  •   Graduate
  •   Certified Fraud Examiner, AML related certification

Years & Nature of Experience : 

  • Minimum of 8 years of hands-on experience in fraud risk/Compliance Investigations

Technical Competencies :

 

  • Knowledge of banking products and channels
  • Knowledge of fraud schemes
  • Oral and written Communication skills
  • Investigation, interviewing, and report writing skills
  • Use of excel to analyse data
