Job Description

As a Service Owner of the  Database Service you will be managing diverse teams responsible for the planning, design and implementation of the Bank’s Database Infrastructure along with their expansion, as well as providing architecture services to the existing and new projects within the Bank.

You will be accountable for building and evolving the Database capability that ensures our databases and infrastructure are securely developed and a positive security culture is embedded into the working practices of our database teams..

You will be responsible for managing the activities of your teams while working in collaboration with other Infra teams like Systems Operations, Storage Operations, Security Operations and various other internal and external teams and parties.

Generic Accountability

  •  Manage, oversee and lead a team of database consultants that deliver database services to technology and business teams across our organisation.
  • Drive the uplift in database capability to ensure an appropriate toolset, technologies and processes are in place to achieve an effective database service supporting the team’s operational objectives.
  • Collaborate with different hardware and software vendors to address company business and technical requirements
  • Conduct Proof of Concept (PoC) tests to ensure vendor solutions meet company requirements
  • Provide database architecture support to the various project teams, to ensure that projects are executed within their deadlines, and integrated into company IT systems without affecting services
  • Define the long-term technical strategy and architecture vision for Database domains
  • Participate in all Change Management processes including risk assessment and procedural development and review

 

Specific Accountability

  • Design, build, implement & support Database of different flavors (Oracle, MS-SQL, My-SQL, Postgres)
  • Align organizational database and infrastructure with overall business and technology strategy
  •  Identify and communicate current and emerging database & Vulnerabilities  threats
  • Design database architecture elements to mitigate threats as they emerge
  • Plan, research and design robust database architectures for IT projects
  • Create solutions that balance business requirements with information and database requirements
  •  Identify database design gaps in existing and proposed architectures and recommend changes for enhancements
  • Develop and lead the team implementing an automation strategy for Bank’s infrastructure

Qualifications

Minimum Qualification

  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Systems Engineering or equivalent degree
  •  Expert-level industry or vendors certifications are desired

Minimum Experience

  • Overall of 15+ years of experience and minimum of 5+ years experience as a Database Manager. Experience dealing with multiple complex, critical systems is expected.
  • As the Service Owner, you will be part of a team that architects, develops, and supports databases for mission-critical applications both onprem & Cloud
  • Sound knowledge on Cloud Technologies like Azure & AWS.
  • Proven ability to deliver against project schedules ensuring timelines with quality work.
  • Demonstrated ability to proactively manage to key objectives.
  • Ability to work on multiple initiatives and projects simultaneously.
  • Strong organizational skills ability to keep multiple streams of work moving across people and departments.
  • Ability to develop and deliver executive level presentations on, long-term strategy, roadmaps, and current state operations.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity as needs change on a regular basis with a high degree of initiative and sense of urgency
  • Results oriented, willing to take responsibility and accept accountability for action.
  • Working knowledge of the ITIL or similar ITSM Framework
  • Must have the ability to make solid business decisions in a dynamic and fast-paced environment
  • Must display confidence in critical situations
  • Team player with excellent consultative and communication skills and the proven ability to work effectively with internal and external clients, vendors and consultants
  • Strongly preferred experience: working with Banks and other financial institutions, federal agencies
  • Experience of security governance and compliance (e.g. GDPR, PCI-DSS, ISO27001)
  • Certifications such as Oracle OCP, MS-SQL Professional are desirable
  • Must have experience managing and leading a team of Database Administrators through all phases of database implementation & Support
  • Responsible for managing the administration of multiple complex 7 X 24 production systems in addition to multi-server development and testing environments.
  • Responsibilities for creating tools, processes and implementing 3rd party tools to ensure the database system's effectiveness, reliability, availability, security and recoverability.
  • Experienced management of Database Administrators Primary Oracle, secondary MS-SQL & knowledge on other flavors of database ( MongoDB,Sybase & Postgres).
  • This includes DBA task and time management, project planning, understanding application lifecycles, production support requirements, and data security policies.
  • Experienced Database Administrator for UNIX and Windows environment.,
  • Administering multiple DB server environments including High Availabilty Features like RAC, Data Guard, Cluster configuration and Always-ON setup
  • UNIX experience should include scripting for the automation and streamlining of day-to-day database administration, as well as the use of UNIX system commands to create, administer and monitor database systems.
  • Enhances the effectiveness of database tools and services.
  • Proper impact assement done for any changes moving to production, including CR approvals.
  • Ensures changes done to the database systems follow an agreed workflow and are tracked systematically
  • ·        Ensures high availability of databases is maintained all the time
  • ·        Ensures that DR procedures are up to date and fully tested for all critical systems
  • ·        Ensure regular required maintenance for databases is being performed to maintain a healthy environment
  • ·        Ensures DB information is backed-up, secured, and protected
  • ·        Assures that all data complies with legal regulations
  • ·        Reports regularly to top management teams
  • ·        Monitors database performance and improve the technology
  • ·        Excellent oral and written skills with the ability to interact with senior management, technical subject matter experts, and executive level.
