Finance Unlocked is a fast growing and successful B2B start-up in the Edtech, Mediatech and Fintech space. An on-demand video-delivered learning platform built specifically for the finance industry. Our content is created in house by over 100 industry experts, covering all aspects of finance and accredited by leading global institutes (CISI and Chartered Banker). Customers include some of the world's largest asset managers, banks, law firms and business schools. Our video engagement rates average 91%. Finance Unlocked is also focused on making a positive social impact. In 2020 we delivered £3M worth of education to University students affected by campus closures and contributed to the national Fintech for Schools educational programme. This year the team will soon be launching a societal inclusion initiative with Santander, rolling out 3,000 Finance Unlocked subscriptions to Black and Black Mixed students.

Job Description

This is the perfect opportunity for a multi-talented and results driven person, with the ambition to make a significant impact on a company and market. You will be instrumental in helping run this fast growing business from an operational and financial perspective to help Finance Unlocked achieve their vision of redefining learning and development for all professionals.

We’re seeking a Head of Operations to take ownership of the finance, people, legal and operational processes underpinning the business. Working directly with our CEO, you will be responsible for the day to day running of these areas, thereby helping develop solid and scalable processes that will provide the company with the platform for hyper-growth.



About the role

  • Help develop and maintain the operational strategy including the finance, people and legal processes to help achieve the company’s mission and vision
  • Finance - you will be responsible for the finance aspects of the business including managing our accountants (payroll, monthly accounts),  maintaining our accounts (Xero, invoicing, expenses, payments), maintaining the business plan/3 year forecasts and individual team budgets, spending and sign-off
  • People - you will be responsible for managing the org chart and running any HR processes including hiring, onboarding, one on ones and half and full year appraisals alongside the relevant line manager. You will also be responsible for the team’s working environment - team remote working, co-working, off-sites and implementation of office space/studio space for later in 2021. You will help define and be responsible for instilling the company culture strategy - from employee benefits to taking ownership of our application for B-corp status 
  • Legal - assist and help run any relevant legal processes, including liaison with external contractors
  • Help cultivate a culture of accountability by monitoring, analysing, and reporting on each team’s KPIs, running the monthly ‘All Hands’ meetings
  • Running the firm-wide quarterly project process to ensure alignment with the company’s strategic goals
  • Senior management - invited to participate in senior management team meetings to get a cross functional view across the business and positioning the company for scaling
  • Investment - from time to time assist with capital raising processes, including the ongoing management and relationship building with investors (current, new and potential)
  • Manage and develop relationships with various external consultants including senior advisor in temp CFO role, accountants/bookkeepers, HR consultant, legal advisors and board members

About you

  • 5+ years of post qualification experience 
  • ACA, ACCA, CIMA or accountancy background with a strong financial acumen for running accounting processes and a business plan
  • Experience building and managing a comprehensive operations strategy
  • A “swiss army knife” type person, with an extraordinary skill set, intelligent, resilient and adaptable to overcome any obstacle
  • Incredibly structured, methodical, diligent, organised and detail orientated
  • Thrives with responsibility and accountability - has a strong sense of ownership and determination to get things done
  • A real people person - empathetic and able to build strong and long lasting relationships both internally and externally
  • A desire to work in an entrepreneurial environment and take on various responsibilities
  • Ambitious and on the path to be a future COO of a high-growth company
  • Not afraid to do small and sometimes tedious tasks if it helps keep you and the company on the path to success
  • Data driven mentality to continually optimise team KPIs and progress to allow for hyper-growth
