Job Description

Required Clearance: TS /SCI with full scope polygraph

Satellite Systems Engineer provides project management supporting; calibration, testing, preventative maintenance and break/fix services for the Sponsor’s satellite entry terminals, radomes and ancillary systems for Sponsor’s SATCOM Network gateways. Engineers will perform annual assessments and maintenance at each location and upon conclusion provides the Sponsor with a comprehensive report of completed, pending and out-of-scope actions. Temporary duty travel for both domestic and overseas locations is required. Site deployments average 45 days but may extend up to 70 days depending on weather, outage windows and terminal status. Individuals can expect to provide project management assistance on satellite projects/programs; assist in coordination of plans with other contractors for field engineering activities pertaining to the satellite network; provide input for schedule, cost, risk mitigation, and WBS completion to the project management process; and provide close support to Sponsor’s SATCOM databases, applications and tools.

 Duties/Tasks and Responsibilities:

· Perform detailed analyses across a wide range of satellite entry terminals

· Provides detailed recommendations based on analysis of satellite link calculations and equipment assessments

· Interface with industry vendors as required

· Provide recommendations for improving satellite network performance

· Prepare technical reports, drawings, graphs, and other technical documentation, as required, in support of the SATCOM network

· Coordinate and implement network changes with regional relay facilities (RRFs) for system testing

· Troubleshoot problems with existing applications, tools, and databases, including Microsoft Access, Excel, Acquisitions Request database, the Satellite Terminals database and other specialized databases used to test, record and analyze SATCOM systems

· Compose bill of materials (BOM) and manage inventories

· Review ESS Support Vendor test plans and procedures for evaluating satellite earth terminal equipment

· Operate signal generators, spectrum analyzers,

· Perform detailed testing, calibration and maintenance of electronics and RF components to include but not limited to the following:

o Dehydrators

o Solid State Power Amplifiers (SSPA)

o Low noise amplifiers / band filters (LNA / LNB)

o Feed horn assemblies

o Waveguide

o Combiners

o Inter facilities links (IFL)

o Block Up / Down converters (BUC / BDC)

o Antenna Tracking Systems (ATS)

o Antenna Position Controllers (APC)

o Modems

o G/T measurements

o Antenna pattern analysis

· Clean and maintain antenna and radome structures to include but not limited to the following:

o Washing of structures and antenna

o Inspection of pedestals, antenna and radome

o Torqueing structural bolts in accordance with defined standards

o Sealing, caulking and painting of radomes

o Blower assembly maintenance and repair

o Azimuth and elevation component mechanical inspection and repair

o Antenna system lubrication

o Anemometer inspection and repair

Qualifications

Required Clearance: TS /SCI with full scope polygraph

Required Education: Bachelors Degree

Required years of experience: 11 + 

Required Skills:

· In-depth knowledge of Satellite Engineering

· Knowledge of RF Theory and concepts

· Must understand and have experience with Level 1 & Level 2 Ground Station maintenance:

o LNA’s

o ACU’s

o Tracking Receivers

o ModuMAX SSPA’s

o Up converters and Downconverters

o Dehydrator System’s

o Radomes and equipment shelters

· Specifically must have experience with:

· Antenna test patterns and G/T calculations

· Radome Maintenance experience a plus:

o Inflatable radomes,

§ anemometers, and blower systems

o Geodesic radomes

o Sandwich panel radomes

· Must be willing to travel for 2 -3 months at a time to both CONUS and OCONUS locations.

Desired Skills:

· Other experience required:

o General Mechanical and machinery equipment maintenance

o Experience with DOD and commercial SATCOM networks

o Electrical experience:

§ Electrician certificate a plus
