Job Description

This is a unique opportunity to join the Fastmarkets Technology Team to help continue grow our technology and build a highly skilled team that will enable us to accelerate our product delivery and scale our business. The Technology team at Fastmarkets develop, enhance and support our flagship digital platform, serving global customers with critical data, news and analytics in the commodities markets we serve. We make this data and intelligence easily accessible though multiple channels including web, desktop, API, Excel and mobile iOS and Android applications, enabling customers to integrate our digital offering into their business workflows.

The Quality Assurance (QA) Engineer works is a full-time position working within a Scrum team reporting to the Engineering Manager. In this role, they will be working as part of a global a team of Software Engineers, Business Analysts and Product Managers to successfully develop and deliver new features. This includes contributing to major projects that make a difference to Fastmarkets customers both in our existing markets such as metals, forest products and agricultural commodity sectors.

The QA Engineer will be principally working within an expert group such as Market Data, Platform Services, News, Prices, and Analytics and from there develop knowledge across all dimensions of the Fastmarkets platform, enabling them to be equipped with both business and technical expertise to tackle Fastmarkets’ most exciting business challenges.

The QA Engineer will be responsible for the set-up, execution, and on-going maintenance of manual tests and automation test frameworks to ensure the quality assurance of software and services. The role is a hands-on, individual contributor role, working in close collaboration both colleagues within Technology and Product functions within Fastmarkets.

 

Principal Accountabilities

Quality Assurance

  • Work closely with other QA Engineers and Software Engineers to develop and maintain test frameworks and test environments for the execution of automated and manual tests.
  • Work closely with Business Analysts and Product Owners to understand, write, refine, and implement various test scenarios. These will be used to help build a robust and efficient test suite for functional, non-functional and regression testing purposes.
  • Within the Scrum team, work closely with other members to ensure software solutions meet our quality assurance standards.
  • Proactively ensure that requirements are clear for any new feature, and that the acceptance criteria are appropriate prior to implementation.
  • Prepare release plans and coordinate with the Release Manager for effective software delivery
  • Work within the agile software development framework used across Fastmarkets
  • Ensure appropriate documentation is maintained

Leadership and Collaboration

  • Participating in and contributing to team meetings and stand ups, bring in new ideas
  • Working collaboratively with other engineers, product developers and business analysts

Helping to resolve support issues where appropriate

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

We are looking for an individual who is highly motivated, driven, and have a passion to be part of a fast-paced, successful team. Being a strong team player is also important as well as someone who is happy to work flexibly.

  • Strong background testing software solutions in a microservice environment
  • Experience in at least one automation framework of the following:
    • Cucumber + Playwright (ideal)
    • Cucumber + Selenium
    • Cucumber + Cypress
    • Python Behave Framework
  • Experience in end-to-end (e2e) testing
    • Ability to integrate backend and frontend tests for e2e data assertion
    • Ability to integrate testing solutions to CI/CD pipelines
    • Experience in SQL and creating test data
  • Excellent background in
    • Analysing and setting up test scenarios
    • Exploring positive and negative journeys
    • Measuring and tracking test coverage
  • Good understanding of development processes
    • Agile (including Scrum and Kanban)
    • Behaviour Driven Development
    • Automated build and deploy processes including CI/CD pipelines
  • Some basic knowledge of a modern programming language
  • Knowledge of tools used for fault diagnosis and debugging of software applications
  • Good communication skills, collaborative attitude with a strong desire to help deliver quality software to customers
