Job Description

The Manager – Art Direction & Design is responsible for leading the design team and overseeing the management of the Farm Boy brand and execution of all Farm Boy retail communication, advertising, creative of all channel assets, signage design and store experience. The performance of the duties must ensure a quality service approach to all employees, customers and suppliers. All responsibilities must be performed in a manner consistent with the Farm Boy Way.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and review all promotional signage, retail communications, advertising, channel creative, signage design and store experience to ensure all advertising aligns to the Masterbrand Strategy, company guidelines and brand guidelines.
  • Plan, organize, direct and control the day-to-day operations of the design team and drive the achievement of the department’s mandate by coaching and managing team performance.
  • Plan, develop, organize, direct, control, implement and evaluate marketing and advertising strategy and execution with respect to campaigns and in-store programs and ensure the quality and consistency in the creation and execution of all materials, both digital and print.
  • Collaborate with the Store Experience Teams to ensure all store design concepts are aligned with the Masterbrand strategy and brand guidelines.
  • In consultation with Procurement, develop and implement marketing and branding strategy with respect to visual presentation in the retail environment conducive to generating sales, including department branding, messaging product display units, Points of Purchase signs and external signage.
  • Lead and coach the full Design team of Graphic Designers and Production Artists to ensure best in class creative is developed, produced and executed for Farm Boy.
  • Liaise with other departments regarding their marketing requirements.
  • Oversee signage for retail operations.
  • Develop store signage and experience for new retail locations; maintain and upgrade existing locations.
  • Look for ways to tune internal marketing process, cut costs and create greater efficiencies within in-store programs.
  • Review team workload and make adjustments as necessary to ensure team is meeting deadlines.
  • Review and approve invoices and track budget documents.
  • Work with HR Department for hiring needs and approve time off and vacation requests.
  • May be requested to undertake other related duties on a periodic basis.

Qualifications

  • Typically requires completion of post-secondary education with an emphasis in Design, Marketing, Advertising or Business Management, plus 5 to 10 years of progressively responsible experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Broad marketing perspective and knowledge of major food and consumer trends.
  • Keen eye for detail with superior standards of quality and a positive outlook on progress and success.
  • Exceptional team orientation and a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a leadership position with others to achieve common goals.
  • Adept at working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial, results-oriented environment.
  • Excellent analytical and conceptual skills and excel at developing and implementing new marketing strategies.
  • Exceptional organizational and administration skills to manage multiple projects effectively, prioritize work and meet strict deadlines.
  • Strong problem-solving, financial analysis and decision-making skills.
  • Required to travel between Farm Boy stores (must be flexible in terms of work schedule and location).
  • Experience in design, fabrication and installation of a full range of retail communication signs materials and methods.

  • Lack of control over pace due to multiple and/or tight deadlines beyond one’s control.
  • Sitting for long periods of time at workstation.
  • Possible exposure to eye strain from computer terminals.
