Family Service has offered comprehensive services to vulnerable populations in our community since 1903, and our mission has always remained strong: To empower individuals and families to transform their lives and strengthen their community. Our programs are committed to helping to improve the overall health of our families by working with community partners to effectively address social and economic instability, as well as provide valuable resources and support in homes, neighborhoods, schools and workplaces. These efforts demonstrate effectiveness in addressing community needs and improving outcomes for families in the communities we serve while addressing social determinants of health that directly impact where people live, learn, work and play. Our programs provide services to include early childhood education, mental health and well-being counseling services, outpatient substance abuse treatment, parent education and engagement, family strengthening, therapeutic visitation and neutral exchange for children and families; financial empowerment, workforce development and readiness, and senior in-home assistance.

The Teacher Assistant (including substitutes and floaters) asissts the Head Start Teacher in delivering the classroom curriculum in accordance with Head Start regulations, licensing, and guidelines, and will use agency standards to ensure that services provided are in alignment with the Social Determinants of Health through a trauma informed care lens as defined by the agency. Ensures the classroom is one in which children are aware of expectations, provided with rules, maintain consistency; while building a positive relationship with students which focuses on positive communication, appropriate physical proximity, respect, positive discipline, and guidance. Maintain supervision of children at all times.

1. High School Diploma or GED plus a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential required; working towards an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree with a major relative to early childhood education preferred. 2. Previous classrom experience and ability to utilize various learning techniques in the successful delivery of curricula 3. Understands cultural differences and is sensitive to the implications of culture for service delivery. 4. Current Pediatric CPR and First Aid Certification. 5. Fluent in English and Spanish (read, write, and speak) desirable.
