Job Description

The Communications/Public Relations Specialist is responsible for the development, implementation, coordination and quality control for public relations and communications with the public (general and
specific) about the overall agency, its services, and its internal and external relationships. The Communications/Public Relations Specialist works cooperatively with Department Managers and Agency
Leadership to enhance the agency’s brand, image, and messages.

Pay Rate: Full Time; $45,000-$50,000/Annually



  • Undergraduate degree in communications, journalism or related field with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in journalism and/or public relations, preferably with a focus on storytelling, social
    services, and compelling life struggles.

  • Fluent in spoken and written Spanish language.

  • Exemplary writing and editing skills,including ability to draft and edit text from different sources or brief notes.

  • Demonstrated ability to write and pitch persuasively for different audiences and for different forms of media.

  • Familiarity with journalistic priorities and protocols, broadcast and new media outlets, and ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with members of the local media.

  • Experience in creating effective and descriptive materials for print and electronic publication, including social media. Demonstrated ability to assess and manage priorities and competing

  • Demonstrate ability to access and manage priorities and completing deadlines.


  • Graduate degree in communications, journalism or related fields.

  • Experience in effective messaging complex systems and services to diverse audiences.

  • Established relationships with members of San Antonio's media. Experience with and a commitment to working in a very diverse workforce.
