Job Description

Overview.

We are looking for a Digital Buildings Architect to support the design and delivery of digital building solutions across  international projects.

This role sits within the Digital Engineering team and focuses on smart building design, systems integration and digital infrastructure. You will work alongside senior architects and engineers to help shape how Independent Data Layers, building systems, networks and cloud platforms are brought together to deliver secure, sustainable and human centric buildings.

The ideal candidate will architect integrated solutions across BMS, IoT, analytics, and enterprise platforms while managing engineering teams and ensuring successful project execution from concept through handover.

Key Responsibilities.

Support Solution Architecture and Integration Design.

  • Assist senior colleagues in developing digital building architectures covering building systems, networks, cloud platforms and Independent Data Layers.

  • Help document integration between systems such as BMS, HVAC, lighting, metering, access control, vertical transport, IoT devices and workplace applications.

  • Prepare and maintain technical artefacts including diagrams, data flow maps, interface schedules, device lists and point schedules.

  • Contribute to the definition of IP addressing, VLAN structures, device naming and tagging that support scalability, security and analytics.

Smart Building Requirements, Energy and User Outcomes.

  • Work with senior architects, project managers and client stakeholders to capture and refine smart building requirements, user journeys and use cases.

  • Support the design of solutions that improve comfort, wellbeing, maintainability, space utilisation and energy performance, not just connectivity.

  • Assist in selecting and specifying sensors, platforms and analytics tools that support optimisation, FDD and reporting against ESG and performance KPIs.

Cybersecurity and OT Network Support.

  • Help apply secure by design principles to digital building architectures, aligned with client policies and recognised standards.

  • Support coordination with client IT and security teams on topics such as segmentation, remote access and monitoring.

  • Contribute to OT cyber risk assessments and remediation activities on projects, under guidance from senior team members.

Delivery Coordination, QA and Technical Support

  • Support the Digital Solutions and MSI teams through the full project lifecycle, from concept and design through construction, commissioning and handover.

  • Assist in reviewing contractor and vendor submissions for alignment with the agreed architecture, standards and scope.

  • Help develop integration test plans, commissioning scripts and data validation checklists, and support their execution on projects.

  • Provide day to day technical support to project managers and site teams, escalating complex issues to senior architects as needed.

Client, Stakeholder and Partner Engagement

  • Participate in client workshops, design meetings and technical reviews, contributing to discussions and capturing actions and requirements.

  • Support the preparation of technical content for proposals, scopes of work, deliverables and client presentations.

  • Help coordinate with technology partners and vendors to align solutions, clarify interfaces and resolve design questions.

Standards, Knowledge Management and Continuous Improvement

  • Use and help refine FPC Digital’s standards, templates and playbooks for MSI, IDL, smart building design and OT cyber.

  • Contribute to internal knowledge libraries, lessons learned and case studies from live projects.

  • Take part in training sessions, brown bag talks and communities of practice, both as a learner and, over time, as a contributor.

Team Leadership & People Management

  • Lead and mentor solution engineers, deployment coordinators, and technical specialists.

  • Support resource planning and team allocation across programs.

  • Support hiring, training, performance management, and career development.

  • Build technical capability within the remote center of excellence.

Qualifications

Education.

  • Preferred: Degree in Engineering, Building Services, Computer Science, IT, or a related technical discipline.

  • Equivalent industry experience will be considered.

  • Additional training or certifications in any of the following would be beneficial but not essential:

    • Controls, BMS or systems integration

    • Networking fundamentals

    • Cloud platforms, data engineering or analytics

Experience.

  • Industry Expertise:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Controls, or related field).

    • 12–15 years of experience in BMS, smart buildings, or digital infrastructure

    • Exposure to commercial, workplace, life sciences, mixed use or similar building projects is preferred.

    • Strong knowledge of: Niagara Framework, BACnet / BACnet SC, Modbus,MQTT,,OPC, Cloud IoT platforms

    • Experience managing teams

    • Good to have knowledge of OT cybersecurity frameworks (NIST, IEC 62443).

  • Technical Skills:
    • Good understanding of at least some key building systems and protocols, for example BMS, HVAC, lighting, metering, access control, BACnet, Modbus, MQTT or REST APIs.

    • Experience with integration design, data flows or connecting systems through gateways, APIs or middleware is desirable.

    • Awareness of IP networking concepts (addressing, VLANs, routing, firewalls) and an interest in developing deeper OT networking skills.

    • Interest or experience in analytics, FDD, dashboards, digital twins or data visualisation is beneficial.

    • Any exposure to tagging standards or ontologies (for example Haystack, Brick, custom schemas) would be a plus.

  • Soft Skills:
  • Clear written and verbal communication, able to present technical information in a structured and accessible way.
