Job Description

The Project Controls Coordinator plays a critical role in supporting the successful planning, monitoring, and execution of industrial construction, maintenance, and turnaround projects across FLINT operations. This position is responsible for tracking project costs, monitoring performance metrics, coordinating reporting activities, and ensuring project financial information is accurate, complete, and timely.

Working collaboratively with project managers, operations teams, field personnel, clients, subcontractors, and project controls professionals, the Project Controls Coordinator helps ensure projects remain aligned with budget, schedule, and performance objectives. This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced project environment.

What would you be doing?

Project Cost Control & Monitoring

Support project performance through effective cost tracking and control activities by:

  • Monitoring and controlling project expenditures.
  • Verifying labour, equipment, material, supplier, vendor, and subcontractor costs.
  • Ensuring project costs are accurately captured, documented, and recorded.
  • Tracking budget utilization and identifying potential cost overruns.
  • Supporting cost forecasting and project performance analysis.

Reporting & Performance Analysis

Coordinate project controls reporting activities by:

  • Supporting daily cost capture and reporting processes.
  • Utilizing project KPIs and workforce data to estimate daily costs.
  • Preparing actual versus budget cost reports.
  • Monitoring man-hour productivity through earned versus burned analysis.
  • Reporting when purchase orders or budget thresholds reach established limits.

Project Coordination & Administration

Support project execution and stakeholder communication by:

  • Coordinating with field clerks and administrative personnel to ensure timely and accurate data entry.
  • Communicating project progress, costs to complete, and emerging risks to project teams.
  • Assisting with supplier and subcontractor administration, including purchase orders, invoicing, and closeout activities.
  • Monitoring subcontractor progress and supporting reporting requirements.
  • Supporting reporting reconciliation and project closeout activities.

Collaboration & Continuous Improvement

Contribute to successful project outcomes by:

  • Working closely with project teams, field operations, clients, and project controls personnel.
  • Identifying reporting discrepancies and supporting resolution efforts.
  • Providing accurate and timely project information to stakeholders.
  • Supporting process improvements and operational efficiencies.
  • Promoting a culture of safety, quality, accountability, and collaboration.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in a related field of study.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a Project Controls, Cost Control, or Project Coordination role.
  • Experience in industrial construction, maintenance, turnaround, or oil and gas environments is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of project cost control fundamentals, including labour, materials, equipment, and third-party services.
  • Working knowledge of accounts payable and accounts receivable processes.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively across multiple stakeholder groups.

This position has been identified as a safety-sensitive position and will require completion of drug and alcohol testing.
