Job Description
The role involves working with project teams to implement and support reliable, high-performance relational database management systems for Experian’s core business applications. You will ensure the implementation and support of database components in accordance with established policies and procedures. This includes working with project teams to define database schemas, maintenance plans, performance metrics, and growth forecasting.
You will also define, measure, and analyse key metrics to assess database availability and ensure that Service Level Agreements are achieved. Scheduling production changes to databases, including data updates and SQL Server configuration, will be part of your responsibilities. Additionally, you may be required to oversee client satisfaction and manage the resolution of database related issues.
Key Responsibilities
- Installing and configuring new database systems.
- Designing and implementing new database schemas and objects.
- Modification to existing database objects in line with team defined standards.
- Data migration between different database products.
- Work as part of project teams to assist developers with optimisation and standardisation of code.
- Working with the security team to audit database security on a regular basis.
- If necessary, manage the ticket queue and communicate with relevant stakeholders.
- Provisioning of database access in line with defined security measures, including installation and testing of new databases.
- Documentation including catalogue of SQL server real estate, database jobs and data dictionaries.
- Monitoring mailboxes, monitoring tools and alerts queues.
- Assist with patches and upgrades
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of experience.
- At least two years of experience with large databases.
- At least two years of experience with databases in high-availability configuration.
- Proven industry experience developing in both AWS and Azure.
- Strong experience / skills administering Microsoft SQL Server 2012 and above.
- Amazon RDS (SQL Server, MySQL).
- Demonstrable experience with T-SQL, SSIS, DTS.
- Demonstrable experience with SSRS (SQL Server Reporting Services).
- Experience in Azure SQL MI, Data Factories, monitoring and administration using native tools.
- AWS Glue, DMS (Database Migration Service) and Lambda for lightweight ETL.
- CloudFormation, Terraform, or CDK.
- Version-controlled DB infrastructure and automated provisioning pipelines.
- Proven experience with Clustering, Database Mirroring, Log shipping and Replication.
- Familiarity with both Azure Native and AWS Backup services.
- AWS IAM roles & policies and database authentication methods (IAM DB Auth, password rotation, Secrets Manager).
- Exposure to monitoring tools such as Diagnostic Manager, System Centre Operations Manager, Amazon CloudWatch metrics (CPU, IOPS, connections, deadlocks), Performance Insights (query performance, waits), etc.
- Experience executing Disaster Recovery plans.
Preferred Qualifications
- Amazon RDS (PostgreSQL, Oracle).
- Amazon Redshift, Redshift COPY/UNLOAD techniques, etc.
- Basic Networking knowledge, i.e.
- VPCs, subnets, routing
- Private endpoints
- Peering and VPC security
- DNS (RDS endpoints, cluster endpoints)
- Python or PowerShell for automation.
- Understanding of and exposure to .Net and XML technology.
